Warranty Question
I'm not a cheap person but I also don't like spending money when I don't need to.
My C14 has 1200 miles. I changed the oil at 125 miles and I was going to take it to Kawasaki to get the oil & rear end fluid changed by them. I'm afraid that if I don't have them do it I might have a warranty problem down the road.

Well you might have a warranty problem down the road but it won't be because you changed your own oil. You should just document when you did the oil changes and what oil and filter you used. If you keep things within the manufacturers specs then anything that might go wrong won't be oil related.

i am a little concerned about my new kawi - it is the second year of the zx14 , and i am really on the fence about whether to get the four year plan or not- htis is both my first kawi and my first sport bike - all of my other bikes were wide open so that when it began a coolant leak or an oil seepage problem , it became apparent farly quickly , but what with all of the plastic covering everything , and my real lack of mechanical aptitude , i wonder if it will be running past my four year payments to the bank. i broke it in as the book said , slowly at first , never rev when cold , and the rest is pure riding joy...........will i be invalidating the warranty if i go with a lower grade of gas like 87 instead of 93.......what does a warranty cover , and in addition to that, am i the one on the hook for all of the internal maintenance that i would not normally do ? i have had many bikes that had racked up real high miles 80 thou and more , and all i ever did to those was oil frequently , and change batteries - i am clueless on the future of this bike

I will never for ONE minute understand WHY you guys would both allow or spend money and time allowing someone else to do such BASIC and easy standard maint. on your bike.... For one, if you do it it will be done right.... second you don't waste the time bringing it in.....
Guys.... the rear end and the motor oil take about 30 minutes for the mechanically challenged to do.... It is that easy... just write down when you did it..... Thats it....
I replace both the drain plug washers each change..... get a few in advance and store them till you need them....
You will have the confidence of knowing that your drain plug wont be stripped, fall out or who knows.... you would think that the shop would just do it right.... wrong.... just read the threads on ANY forum and look at the horror stories from the "techs" at the shops....
DO IT YOURSELF..... IT'S ONLY A FEW MINUTES!!!!! GET REAL..... It should be enjoyable and part of the sport...... learn about your bike, work on it, issues in the middle of nowhere come with NO shop guys... The better acquainted you are with the bike, the better..... Good place to start....

30 mintes to drain the ass end oil? Mechanically challenged with one hand and some missing fingers perhaps...

If you kept the paperwork from the dealer - you have up to the 11th month to elect the additional warranty coverage. I'd only extend the warranty if I had some earlier problems.

It is a 36 month warranty... So... you should have until the 35th month, shouldn't you?

Last time my dealer changed my oil I drove away and it leaked out all over my rear tire.....
Luckily I had someone behind me to let me know my tire was all wet with oil.
My dealer replaced my tire with a comparable used one - but I have decided to do my own maintenance, (with a little help from my friends) since that experience.
If you are not comfortable doing it yourself - then pay for it.
Just be aware that they can make mistakes too - and know enough about your bike to know if something is wrong with it, even if it has been (only ever) worked on by a shop.
