Software is available. As per Kaw, my service manager ordered two new tire pressure sensors. They are backordered (that may say something in itself). Manager was told that if that doesn't work, then they will have to replace the "Smart Computer". More to follow when sensors get in, I was told maybe two weeks....

Both my sensors did work from day one, put new front and rear tires on at 2200 miles (taking extra care to not damage wheel sensors). At 3,000 miles the rear quit working and went to a multi dash line by the rear tire on the dash. My dealer (who is fantastic) looked at it and said that the sensor on the wheel had failed. It is a known problem and that is why they are on back order. From what I understand Kawasaki is switching vendors. Which would explain the delay. Water does not and can not effect their working unless you fill your tire with water instead of air. A special scanner tool is required, which my dealer is ordering, to reset the new sensor and computer.
I have always and will continue to check my pressures manually but I want everything to work on the bike regardless.

Well wish me luck, I'm going to the dealer this morning for new tires and to try to get my front tps fixed. They say they've had a sensor in stock for me for weeks and they now have the sorfware and everything that's needed. They also said I may still need to leave it there for a couple of days if they need to cousult with Kawi. Screw that! I'll see what I can get them to do while I'm there and save the downtime for later. I will at least get the serial #'s from the sensors for use at a later time. I'm betting it's not the sensors at all but the computer and that it will have to be replaced. We shall see...

I bet it's the sensor, not the PC, or it just needs to be re-initialized to read it. I think if it was a blown PC, both would be out...just my .02! Good luck!!

Well Steve you'd have won that bet. I watched as they plodded thru their first use of the new software. When we finally found the TPS in the menus both my sensor s/n's were shown on the computer. Keep in mind that mine USED to work and that the front went out at about 2k miles, rear works fine. They tried re initiating the front by removing that s/n with the software and then reinstalling it. No help. So off came the tire (installing new tires anyway) and they removed the sensor and verified the s/n matched the computer. However when they opened the box that was supposed to contain my new sensor there was a valve stem in there and nothing else (Aurgh!) So I got new tires (Pilot road 2's, very nice) and just for shits we swapped the tps s/n's in the computer front to back just to be sure it wasn't a computer problem and sure enough now my back tire shows no indication. Now we're waiting for a new sensor again.

You would think the parts guy at the dealership would have opened the box and double checked the part before having you come in (since they had the sesonr in stock for 2 weeks).

Fairly obvious at this point that Kawasaki shipped "more than a few" bikes with non-functioning tire pressure sensors.
Consider that not EVERYONE finds an "internet forum" in which to express their frustration...
It doesn't disable what is (otherwise) a VERY well performing machine.
BUT-- as someone who has been WAITING MONTHS to get 100% of what I PAID FOR-- I'm rapidly losing patience.
"Squeeky wheels get the grease"-- and THIS-- as well as the thread on the Concours Owners Group page-- http://www.concours.org/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=14
say that Kawasaki ISN'T really putting priority at getting this FIXED.
The issue needs to be continually re-posted. I HAVE YET TO READ ANYONE POST THAT THE DEALER FIXEDTHIS PROBLEM.
(Keep the ball in play)
If Kawasaki's inept handling of their "production line problem" disuades POTENTIAL buyers-- THEY NEED TO KNOW IT.
Don't get me wrong, I feel Kawasaki HAS engineered the very BEST sport-tourer bike currently available-- but their response to the people who bought DEFECTIVE ONES is totally deplorable.

It may not be as simple a fix as you'd think; not if they want something reliable the 2nd time around. Some of these things take time to rectify and while I understand your frustration, I also understand that sometimes shit like this happens. We all know that new models take time to get right and that parts are usually scarce in the beginning. I had the same shit with some parts on my 1st ZX too...

quote: wow must be rough checking tire pressure "the old way" huh :P
It isn't a matter of it being rough to check our pressure the old way. We all know how to do it and it isn't that big of a deal. It is about buying a $13000 bike and having all the shit you paid for in proper working order.

Good news on those that got fixed. Still waiting on mine but still riding it just fine. I am about due another set of tires and would like to fix it at the same time. We'll see.

FBA--YOU are someone I TOTALLY respect-- so please DON'T BE OFFENDED if I call BULLSHIT.
Manufacturers who SELL a product which CLEARLY DOESN'T WORK AS ADVERTISED FROM DAY ONE-- need to be SEVERELY penalized- IN COURT IF NEED BE.
I HAVE been patient, and I'm sure OTHERS in the same situation can make a similar claim.
Kawasaki truly needs to "pull their head out"--as someone who BOUGHT a bike NEW-- this IS a clear misinterpretation of a "selling point".
I have contacted my dealer three times and Kawasaki Corporate twice with nothing but promises.
Let me ask YOU-- where would YOU go from HERE? (Besides Craigslist) (I'm thinking FTC)..

LOL -- I'm not offended, but that's the reality of the situation. I'd be pissed if I was you as well, but I've been there on my ZX14. It took 3 months to get my down sensor recall fulfilled and I wasn't a happy camper, but I had no choice except to wait it out. In the case of the defective TPS's, I suspect and I've heard that they were in the process of sourcing out another manufacturer for that part (could be true or could be bullshit).
I'd fully expect that they'd effect a warranty right away, despite the consequences if they'd had to do it 3 times again after that until the issue was corrected satisfactorily, but I also understand from a manufacturers point of view that it doesn't make economic sense. If it were me, I'd just leave it alone, since there's technically no inherent danger riding the bike without it (you asked me, so I answered).
BTW, the part about parts being scarce on new models isn't BS, it's just a sad fact of life. This isn't the 1st time something like this has happened, nor will it be the last. Many new vehicles that come out each year have the exact same issues with part delays. The manufacturers just don't expect most parts to be defective - and to stock up on all the parts with the expectation that it would be the case, would be very costly, thereby increasing the price over what most people are willing to pay for a product. In the end, someone has to pay; unfortunately, that's a fact of life that we all have to deal with sometimes. There could be a thousand reasons that the part is delayed. Good luck though! I feel your pain.

On my C14 the TPS worked fine and I have had no issues until this last week (4800 miles). I have noticed when I first start out it takes a minute or 2 before I get a reading. Never did that before. I guess I am also in line to have them checked when I get new tires.
