Finally

Now that the thing has got 8k miles on it and it has become a lot more powerful than new, I was picking up my service manual that came in today and when leaving the Kwak shop and in front of the Harley shop I FINALLY got the thing to wheelie. I have been so used to the 10 and just being able to power wheelie at 7k ish. I had to get used to the idea of lower RPMs and clutching it. Remember I live at 4500 feet so there is a big difference in the power you guys are used to. It is a good feeling. Me like wheelies.

Ya, but this puppy should easily be able to wheelie hard at 4K without clutching, like my ZX14 or my (10R at 5K) by simply whacking the throttle, without even bouncing it. That's what KWAK didn't want us grown-up's to do, hence those silly secondary throttle plates that stay closed forever and kill power.

I hate bringing this up time after time, but I was easily able to wheelie my FJR to the sky at 2500 RPM with a simple twist and bounce. With all that power and TQ on the C14, it has to be able to do the same easily - eh? I know you dont' own a ZX14, but the difference with the plates removed is about 28 FT LBS at the rear wheel at only 3500 RPM with the plates removed...which was why the ZX14 wouldn't power wheelie in was pure stock form. Now I can't keep it down. I'm assuming the C14 has that power locked up in there too Ted. You'd be amazed, seriously.

On another note, the FJR was never even close to as smooth as the C14...at 200 KMH, that FJR was pretty buzzy and ful of vibration, unlike the C14 which is almost eerie.

It seems that about 4k is around the right rpm to do the clutch.
FBA I know exactly what you mean about the plates. The thing just sits there if you try to power wheelie it. So the clutch is necessary. Again I live a 4500 feet and take a huge power hit especially at lower RPMs. So even with the plates out I probably will still have to clutch it up here.

Possibly. but I'd bet you could bounce her up easily with no clutching at 4500, or even less with the plates out. My FJR was able to bounce up at 2500 and throttle up fast and high at 3500. Never had to clutch her up. All the parts needed to make this happen are readily available, (PIPE, PC3). Just need a map is all. I'll do the flies mod if I can get a map and then I'll post pics and share. This thing should at 4K, do what your 10R does at 7, we both know that...and I can feel the bike choking from the air restriction in the lower RPM's. At 3500,this thing should pull like a bat outta hell. Damn - my 10R pulled harder at 4K (with much less TQ) than this thing does.

...I'll leave you with only one thought Ted...

Hey Ted,
I see you have your service manual, I don't have mine yet. Mind looking at the gas tank removal / installation (if it's covered) to see if there's anything noteworthy in there for me? Any gaskets or parts I'll need to change? Thanks.

Wormgear, It says to replace the fuel pump gasket, and there is a gasket on the filler. Also there is foam padding on the bottom of the tank so be prepared to have to get it off and glue it back on. Other than that it looks straight forward.
