Radar Detectors
Note to all. Laser detectors are TICKET detectors, If you get a beep the POPO is lasering you right now. A radar detector uses the doppler effect to try to give you warning when the man has his radar on or has hit someone else. Valentine one is by far the best detector out as is gives front, back or side readings as well as a radar count, very usefull in the multi cop speed traps that are sooooo comon on the interstates now. Note on the V1 it also has the best false rejection I have ever seen as well as remote audio and visual units available. There is a great mounting location where the Cali Evaporator goes or is supposed to go which provides a semi hidden spot that you can still access under the right black panel.

Well Donn, I agree the V1 is by far the best. I have one in my C6 vette and love it. I bought a Whistler cruisader, because of the helmet light and the temp guage. I actually bought a helmet light for a V1 at Laguna Seca and lost it that day Doh. We will see. Also I did put a V1 in the canister bracket on my 10 a few months back. It needs the remote and the hemet light to be effective.

can't say many of the recent (well, 1 or 2 years ago) reviews agree with the V1 best by far statement. i know the RC65 and X50 were running neck and neck with the V1 for performance, and they do have rear facing detectors too, just none have nearly as large one as V1. and the "side" readings are obviously just a comparison of the strength of the front and rear readings, with the arrows pointing to the sides if the signals are about equal. it's a cool feature, and i dont know why others havent done it, since it ought to be pretty simple to implement.
not sure about the false rejection thing. i get countless automatic doors triggering mind even in L mode, but i assume others wouldnt be any different.
the remote visual unit is potentially a very useful thing (useless for me tho) but the remote audio thing is a major piss off. $400 and u can't include an audio jack in the unit?!?
as to laser, from what i've read it does offer SOME protection against laser in that you can sometimes pick up a stray signal when a vehicle in front of you is hit. but i would thing the chances of that situation are relatively small, so it would seem to be all but useless. adding a laser shifter to a good radar detector seems to be the way to go.

i like my V1 very much except for a couple gripes regarding its use on a bike, but our experience is it is NOT the "best by far". it is certainly competitive with other top line detectors tho with a couple extra nifty features to boot.

Right Don, I've never had any laser detector sound off until after I already saw the cop gunning for me so they're pretty much useless.
I'm sure the V1 is a better all around detector but I'm very pleased with the cruisader on the bike. It's versatile, water resistant, has good sensitivity and 3 city modes that can effectively reduce false alarms. It actually works a lot better than I expected. Oh yea, and a good temp gauge.

The one and only reason I feel the V1 is the best is because of the display of bogies, the arrows and the counter make it easy to figure out what is going on. See a fresh one from the rear, there is almost no doubt that it is a cop sneaking up on you. And when you see one from the front and you then see it go behind you know there is not another one waiting for you. And it is pretty safe to go. Of course you have to use your head.
