First impression of my new Concourse 14
Well...... After months of research, and reading every mag and post on the subject, I brought home my new 14.
Although the ride was only 30 miles or so.... heres what my first thoughts are....
First, My super clean 2001 Triumph Sprint ST was not as bad as I thought it was....
Second, this bike on it's maiden ride did not really impress me that much.... right out of the bag.... I must ride it more tomorrow on real roads for any fair estimation...
Third, vibration out of the box was not much better than my Triumph.... nor was it noticeably more comfortable...
Forth it was fast, but nothing mind bending.... more to come on that.... Handling, I'll know more tomorrow...
Fifth, I hate, yes hate the cheesy glove box... Any tips on a properly fitting tank bag would be welcome....
Sixth, the windshield worked better than I thought it would... I am 5' 10"....
Seventh, I wish it had self canceling turn signals.... oh well....
Eighth, it seemed to run warm..(probably normal, I'm in Phoenix)
Ninth, my right leg never got hot!!! so much for that....
Tenth, If your planning on getting rid of your present ride, and if its a good one, think twice, or find a friend with one of these and ride it first.....
And finally, It does ride nice, but I was expecting more...... I will let it break in a bit, do my eventual switch to synthetic, and make any final determinations later..... Thats it for now..... Nice bike...

You have got to ride her and get some miles on her so you can rev her and really feel the motor and chasis. I was somewhat not impressed when I first got mine, after coming of an 05 12R. Now I have almost 1000 miles and have had a chance to open the motor and ride some nice twisty roads and I'm sooooooo glad that I made the trade. I can ride all day and not get leg and wrist pain the way I used to on my 12R. I do miss the power of the 12R but the C14 has power a plenty and is so smooth to boot that after a while the 12R pull will be all but forgotten and replaced with the C14 pull.

Get rid of it and stick with the Triumph. I mean after 30 miles on an new bike anyone should be able to tell how it handles, runs, and how comfortable it is.

The reason I was being sarcastic is because you came to a couple of conclusions that were a bit premature:

But you weren't talking about the Concours you were talking about the Concourse. Is that a Kawasaki?

I was only going to offer $100 for it. I've had mine just under 3 weeks and it's already got 3000 on the odo. I'm totally unimpressed, I keep riding and riding, can't seem to stay off it.....Jeez what a piece of shit. I'll sell you mine for list price as soon as there's another new one available here.

Dude! Its not that you had any issues with the bike its just that you seem so thoroughly disappointed after just 30 miles. I have issues with the bike, but to whine like you did after so little riding time just does not go over so well. Put 500 miles or a 1000 miles on it and have issues like you complained of and you'll at least sound credible.

I dont need to put 500 miles on the bike to tell the glove box is cheesy.... as for the heat, It was a compliment, or was it the still has a little ring in it..... It does have a few vibes, i'm pretty sure they will fade a bit with time....not a whine, a fact...
Or was it the fact that I thought the windshield worked well.....
Or I found no heat in my legs... IN ARIZONA (IN SEPT.)
I wasn't totally upset at all about the bike, just neutral.............
what exactly was a whine? Dude brush up on your reading comprehension, then come back to the forum and chat.

I comprehend just fine, you appear to be the one who cant take a little good natured ribbing. I dont recall attacking any of your points, In fact I agreed with you and stated that I had a few issues as well. I just thought you sounded a little over the top for 30 miles of riding any bike. After you get it broken in and really ride the thing, you are going to absolutely love it. For me the the small glove box is great. I have a place for glasses a microfiber towel and my garage door opener. This is turning into the perfect bike. I too was not that impressed in the first few miles and had some buyers remorse, Hence my sarcasm. But I will boldly state that this is the best bike I have ever ridden.

Thanks for the first impressions.
I understand what you mean about being initially "unimpressed" - this bike really begs for you to pack your bags and head out of town for a night or a weekend and once you do it's easier to appreciate it's qualities.
The bike does have a couple of issues, things other people have also mentioned on the site.
Fish_Antlers is working on a write up right now - so I don't want to give anything away.

In my world it is simply a view, to be taken with a grain of salt..... People were actually offended like I said their wife was ugly..... Where is the freedom of viewpoint here? Do you really think your being fair with that statement?
Kiwi, Thanks for the post, I did ride 250 miles yesterday and had a great time.... Bike was great, I had a lot of fun..... Still don't care for the glove box or the seating position too much, but I'll work on it.... A little forward on the wrists for my taste, and the stock seat rolls me forward a bit too much.... Not too bad for 2 hours but 4 or more and I get a bit sore.....
Vibration is no problem at cruising speed in OD, but there is a tad present at anything above 4600 or so on the Tach, I am sure that will in fact mellow over time.... There's a lot of moving parts in there, but it is no GL 1800 Wing....
Windshield is best for ME in the down position, too much noise when raised..... Power is great, bike is real fast but not super quick, if that makes sense..... Again, only an opinion....

Handles nice...... wish it had a little more range, but I am happy..... My mileage was good....
Stock pipe is fine for me..... Love the stealth effect over the further deterioration of our sport.... I for one will not be putting on a noisy, cheesy "CAN".... Whats the point with that.... Oh yeah.... It's ugly.... I think not....
Brakes worked great, as for the burning leg syndrome, again no heat problem for me.....
Thats it for day 2...... Don't worry guys, I'll get the lighter fluid and stake ready for you..... I had a great time yesterday....
