Yes, last night I noticed that you really can't find a place to put your feet that lets them cool.

Oh sure, that would just pump more hot air onto your legs.

Yes, mine pumps out serious heat at about the ankle/lower shin level. A little more on the right than the left it seems.

add plastic to keep the heat off of the leg/shin area and the heat will exit somewhere else.
physics, plain and simple. the heat has to go somewhere.
more hp=more heat.
Maybe my ST1100 isnt such a bad old bike after all, 200,000 + miles and still going. without hot ankles I might add.

Early I mentioned that I has no heat at all on my shins and ankles, but now that you've got me paying more attention to it, I noticed just a slight warmth on my right shin. I hadn't even noticed until now. Anyway, on my bike it is very minimal. My bike has 3300 miles on it now and it's definitely running cooler than before. When I'd run the revs high, it use to get hot with temp gauge showing 3 or 4 bars, but now usually running 1 bar, possibly 2 if I'm riding aggressively. I only see 3 bars when sitting at stop lights.

I have been riding in 100 degree weather. It is not like the thing is cooking you. When I rode my 10 today I noticed some heat also.
Ozzy, find a way to ride a C14 and you will go home and sell that ST1100.

fish, I paid attention to where the heat is coming from. It is coming out the side vents and wrapping around your legs in the turbulance. The holes in front of the pegs are sealed off.

nope... I have a different issue... mine's been putting heat out onto my ankles from between the engin and the fairing. I just finished taking the side fairings off.. found that the pieces of foam that should block the heat weren't installed correctly... repositioned everything so I'm ready to give it a shot and see how she runs now... seems as though this should have done the trick! :THUMBUP

right side of the bike has a bit of foam that's supposed to wrap around a hose and is supposed to be cable tied in place. cable tie was missing and foam was hanging loose in there.

I'll post up some pix later....

Maybe you have something there, my right side is hotter. Do you have to pull off the faring to see the problem?

Alrighty... back from the ride... situation is improved, but still not perfect. I guess I'll have to spend some time taking the bike apart and making sure the rubber gasket around the engine is put together properly.

Ted... it's easy to take off.. you only need to remove the middle fairing to see the problem. Remove the glovebox/ashtray thing (2 phillips screws) to expose the one fairing screw you need to get to. The remove the fairing screw from the part the meets the black dash trim, the allens holding the cover over the battery tray and then the 3 bigger fasteners that hold the deflector thingy in place. The pull fairing backwards towards back of bike.

You can see all the foam at that point..

GTR... you might want to take that right fairing off (as described) and check to make sure the cable tie is in place (as described)

I just looked at mine and without taking off the farings (I am at work) there are gaping holes in the way it is sealed up. Mine is coming apart and getting fixed as soon as possible.

I just removed the faring and I see what fish is talking about. I put in a nice black zip tie and made sure the foam sealed as good as possible, It is a weird fit around the rubber engine shroud.
I don't know what happened but all that emission crap just mysteriously disappeared.

It seems that the missing emissions junk has smoothed out the bike even more. It looks like they were connecting #2 and #3 and maybe #4. Also the red line was full of fuel. It mysteriously is plugged at the tank now. Which means I can fill it up further.
