I wish you guys would describe exactly what you've modified. I would also love to get rid of all that crap. I have the California model with all that junk.

I would be happy to explain.
1. Remove R/H faring as fish explained.
2, Remove strap from square charcoal canister.
3 . Remove 6mm bolt from evaporator valve (round thingy with a bunch of hoses coming out of it).
4. Remove all hoses from the valve and canister and get the valve and cannister out of the way.
5, Remove the red hose from the tank( under the seat) and cap it off at the tank. IMPORTANT, You must cap it off so it does not leak. You can then pull that hose out.
6. Reroute the blue hose from the tank so it can drain to the bottom of the bike. I believe that should have a little bottle on the end. We need to check the parts book.
7. You have hoses connected to #2, #3, #4 injectors and they need to be plugged. I left them on because it will make it much easier to hookup the synchronization gauges.
8. Reroute the plugged hoses to they don't rub and put it back together.

The parts only weigh a couple of pounds.
Hope this helps.
By the way it does this mysteriously all by itself.

Cali and Nevada. California's Swartzenegger annexed Nevada a few years back. You can tell if you have them, there is a small canister just in front of the clutch cover with a bunch of hoses connected to it. Pretty much in plain site.

I went to Auburn for lunch today and now the left side is hotter than the repaired right. I think it needs checking. It seems even the slightest leak around the foam transfers a lot of heat to your legs. Also I rode the the 10 last night and the repaired C14 is cooler. It is not bad at all now.

Eventually we'll find a good compromise between hot ankles and a high temp reading. If we keep stuffing it full of foam and cut-up window sun shades, then the temp readings are going to keep climbing. I think we should look for a way to get the heat OUT and not just block it off to keep from getting sweaty socks. Personally, I'll be glad for the extra heat here in a couple of months.

...this mysterious heat abating foam you speak of...must be some good shit if ti keeps heat at bay...I guess it would melt if touched to hot metal parts, but what's the ambient temp of the C14's engine compartment while in operation?

You whiners don't know what heat is until you ride a 502 Boss Hoss in warm temps and have your inner thighs rest on the valve covers. I just hope my wife likes the perch on the C14.

worm, the foam just keeps it from coming out the bottom hole. It is designed to not allow any air to pass. The air is supposed to come out the top side holes.
Anyway today I rode in 85-90 degree temps and my ankles were cool. Very comfy.

Just rode to work in 65 degee weather, ankles were cool, almost too cool. I am becoming more concerned about hand protection. It seems there is some cold air coming right onto your hands with the windshield up.

I rode in 85 degree weather and my ankles were well done. I rode in jeans and my left thigh got red from the heat. How did you guys manage to have cool ankles ? What mods did you make to your c14 to get those cool ankles. This heat issue is driving me crazy. Please, any help would be appreciated. Thanks,Lee.

Read the thread completely the instructions are embedded within. In 85 degrees when the foam is properly placed you can't feel any extra heat.

Hot ankles

I took the middle fairings off and checked the foam. I had to tie wrap the foam on the right side. I added some foam to both sides in spots where it looked like heat might get thru. I will ride the bike tomorrow to see if the heat has abated. Lee

The right side is cool, the left side still needs work. There are holes behind the coolant bottle.

fish, I paid attention to where the heat is coming from. It is coming out the side vents and wrapping around your legs in the turbulance. The holes in front of the pegs are sealed off.

There might be something in that statement, a buddy took his side cowling deflectors off his C14 and found that it was cooler around his legs.

I removed the foam on both sides of the Radiator and the black fairing parts in front of them. This gave a straight shot flow to the side vents. The C-14 ran just fine and cooled down faster after stopping with less heat sink in the frame.
Trouble is the heat just POURED out of the vents and cooked my legs from the knees down even at speed, on a cool evening no less.
Verdict? the foam and faings are going back on for sure.
So much for increasing flow!
