I have a scorpion I use as a track helmet. They're nice, but heavy as fack. Good for a few laps then pitting the bike, but i wouldn't use it on the street for long periods.
There's a web page that compares helmet's weight Shoei and Arai are the lightest plus offer a high protection factor.

Weight is a big part of comfort. I have to agree that Arais can be loud. I went do far as to buy a Schuberth which is supposedly a very quiet helmet. What a POS. Turbulent, terrible shields, heavy, big, etc. I wore it once and it now sits in a box on the shelf.
I would love to find a quiet light helmet, but it is an expensive proposition to buy one and find out that it doesn't work with one particular arrangement. That Schuberth was expensive. My Arais are louder on the C14 than the ZX10, which sucks, it needs to be the other way around. But the Arais cut though the wind smoothly. I have bought Shoeis and the things just don't fit me well, aside from being loud and the shields plain suck.

Wondering out loud... for all of you that believed the Motorcyclist article to be the gospel... do you ever (EVER) wonder why you never see ANY of the authors wearing anything other than an Arai or a Shoei?
Can you even pick out a single picture where the journalists (any of them) are riding on the track wearing a $50 chinese helmet? If these cheapo helmets are so great, why aren't the people recommending them wearing them? I've been to countless press launches and can't remember seeing anyone wearing anything that isn't an Arai or a Shoei....
Perhaps the authors of that article simply recommend one thing to their readers, but do the opposite themselves...
Classic case of "do as I say, not as I do"... ?
Food for thought...

Magazine people are given ALL of their gear from boots to helmets to leathers. They have free access to the cream of the crop so why not wear it? If they were workin as a teller making $400/week, the just MIGHT wear a $50.00 bucket. lol

not true... and they don't make that much $$$... most, if not all are free lance and have day jobs...
and beyond that, the basis of the article was that the shitty cheapo chinese helmets performed BETTER than an arai... so if that's the case, why are all the journos and the authors wearing Arai?
well?

I think they should stop all the WSBK and MotoGP riders as they enter the track and take away their Arai and Shoei helmets and replace them with $50 chinese ones.
I bet that would go over like a lead balloon.

Um sure I can...But this seems to be a statement as if their opinoin would be the end all be all. Quality(like beauty) is in the hands of the person chosing based on their own value system. Maybe yo head needs extra padding(Arai)-j/k fish,LOL

Define shitty cheapo chinese helmets. There are helmets out there that I won't wear(yeah, shitty cheapo chinese helmets included). This is so vague and the readers will obviously apply their worse image of a cheap helmet and compare it to Arai(that's not fare again), Which will have them side favorably. But if you were so bold to name a manufacture that's worthy of comparison in quality, you will see some positive feedback from cosumers(like you've read throughout this thread)

Lastly Fish the basis of the Article was about the Arai Helmet. But you were the one who first chanted "cheap" on this thread and that's when this thread started turning into "Cheap and worthless" vs "Expensive and superior" which is quite different than the article conveyed. Be cool Fish... no harm, no foul..

Let it be Fish some people wouldn't know good from bad if it bit them in the ass.... Personally I've worn nothing BUT Arai since 1994... All RX7RR3s and 4s.... The best money can buy or a good thief can steal is how I place Arai..... Even Shoei's best don't compare.
