Could you have spared $50 more to put a clearcoat on this thing?
Fack me... it's got its first scratch... no clearcoat on the bike (as I now know)... boot barely grazed the rear cowl... fuck fuck fuck... nice fine 1" long scratch into the primer.
I'm gonna have to wear cloth diapers on my boots when riding???
grrrrr

fack.... I have waxed it... FACK.
anyways... it's a hairline scratch.... but it's still a scratch... also notice that the overall finish of the air vents going into the rear cowl is a little low... rough edges etc...
the paint on this bike is soft like butt-aaah pretty lame IMHO.

Many are putting on 3M plastic to protect the paint. Also, check your shifter. The clearance on some is too tight and you'll wear the lower fairing from it rubbing.

Warned 'ya.
I put 3M on the tank and the front of the fairing almost as soon as I got the bike home since I scratched the tank while riding the bike at delivery. Get a really good coat of paste wax on it - no liquid cream stuff.
At leaste the paint is so soft that you can rub the scratches out easily......
And yes, Fish, you will have to change the location of your diapers.

What's the 3m stuff called again?

and if you take the Cleartastic off the bike, since it has no clear coat - will it take the paint with it?
Once you put the 3M stuff on, is it on for good?

No, it comes right off. It's pretty amazing stuff.
Rob has it on the whole front end of the Lambo.

Tankslapper.com - they have a combo 3M and house-brand protectors that cover the front cowling and tank - costs about $50. I'm putting it on this weekend - it may finally get above 50degF.

No, its held on 'electrostatically' - no adhesive, just wet the surface with water and baby shampoo and squeegee it on. Check out Tankslapper.com There will be similar aftermarket products (3M-based) coming out soon, as soon as they get the pre-cut patterns squared away.

Fish, good to see you calling it as you see it...keep it coming!...By the way...I think you would be happier with clear-bra....It does use adhesive, but its more durable.

I use the thicker 3M product. Actually I use scraps from what we put on the aircraft and cut my own pieces. It is VERY durable and easy to apply and peels right off. It's really cool stuff. I also have it on my Corvette in the wheel wells and "mud flap" area. It's been on there two years and you still can't see it unless you look at the parting line. One of the guys here at work has the entire front end of his Carrera done from the doors forward.
We get the aircraft stuff from a company called AeroTect in Southern California (866-388-AERO) Google it.

how does that stuff go on Doug? Did you just buy the general clear coat protector (a large sheet) and cut it to size?
