Why the 1098?
I've been scanning the board looking at some interesting things guys have posted, comparing the 1098 to it's inline competitors etc. I'll give you a view of a sad old git about all this, but like you, it's only MY opinion and perspective. Don't be offended, theirs no offence intended

That was good........... hah, I'm not a compu guy, so it shot off before I had done anything, sorry, I was going to get another inline litre bike this spring to go along with my old 99' blue R1, and I was leaning towards the new R1 . It's the best looking of the japanese bikes to my eyes, and through 24 rears, 15 fronts and 56K on the street, my old one is still quite impressive. On the EDR dyno it still pumps out 144rwhp and 80lbs of torque ( degree'd cams, full akro etc), and has been bulletproof.
I've been doing this a LONG time. Street riding and club/ occassional AMA races ( younger days) to current endurance racing with a couple of other sneakyfast old guys just for fun. Lots of gixxer's, honda's yamaha's ( TZ's included) MotoGuzzi's, Norton's etc etc etc... Always wanted a DUC, but too intense with running costs for a guy putting kids through collge etc.............. So along comes the 1098... hmmmm..... pretty.....first impressions and initial rides.......WOW! Looks like the real deal. 15K for the base model. I talk to my little honey........... I want one. The kids are virtually done sucking the financial tit ( one more year of collge at the U ofO for the youngest) Yes she says....... wouldn't you rather have that S model with all the suspension? YES, YES I would. I believe the S will hold a value much higher than the standard model, and once I have the right rear spring it will be great dialing in the suspension at a track day. Yeah, dollar for dollar the best value IMO is an inline japanese litre bike when you factor it all in. This Ducati ( for me at least) is about more than that. A beautiful Italian mistress in a red dress that loves to dance............... I can hear the music....... can you?
