Yes and I have the dubious honor of the only person to get a ticket between turn 2 and turn 3 when the track was in that configuration.
quote:I wonder if a certain "VH" ran the track in that configuration as well?
The Mountain was just too close to the course and several people died and a lot got hurt so I never went there. Sears Point (Now Infenion) and Riverside (Now a Housing development) were the only 2 California Tracks I went to.
Bridgehampton, and VIR (Long COurses) were more my favorite. The Sound and people all looked the same!

very cool. interesting to see the huge changes in the track, tho it is certainly still recognizable. blows me away that racers on these now ancient bike are visibly still MUCH faster around the track than i could ever do on the latest and greatest.

Man that brings back the memories !!
I used to watch those guy's go around Road America in Elkhart Lake. I would watch and dream maybe someday... 4 years later I was on that track and others as well, at that time I just wanted a bike as good as theirs was.
Now we all ride bikes even better

corkscrew isn't half as scary as having that refrigerator sized camera stuck on yer bike ____________ What business is it of yours where I'm from, Friendo?

I have a couple corkscrew sections near here, but there's trees, deer, cars....
I still gotta blitz 'em sometimes. It's amazing how the suspension reacts after I flick it back the other way. Really strong g forces.

Wow thats a great video. They have a vintage race league on a local track here (JenningsGP), and some of the guys pull lap times that are incredible.

that's when the track was more "manly" when turn 2 was FAST! I rode it a few times way back then about the same time as the video was made. Yes, 2 riders died there -1 was Jon Woo during a Honda Racing Team tryout. He was a truely gifted rider who ground the cases & bailed into the hill exiting 2. Broke his neck/killed instantly. The 2nd rider was killed in the same spot on a RD350 when he ground those famous "peg mounts" (that went under the pipes.) He was a local AFM rider, taking the "new riders school" on Saturday before the Sun. race.
After the second death, Laguna Sega mgmt. kicked the local race body out for good (AFM=American Federation of Motorcyclists), & never let us come back. Luckily I did get in some laps before we were banned. I used to ride that place on a 717cc KZ650 superbike. What a fun bike that was; although a REAL wobbler for sure....
Ah...them were the days when men were men!

cool video. Too bad tracks are vanishing for development. I was lucky enough to attend the last race at Ascot Park in 1990
