i think turbo streetbike is a hell of a lot of fun , but it does depend on what your trying to do and your setup
i can only go by my experiances, riding boosted bikes since 02 , gsxr 750, triumph 595, busa , gix 1000 zx14
my current main bike is a turbo gen 2 busa covered some of this above but put it all together here , gt30r water /air cooler using editor for engine management and boost control with a 0-6 swingarm set at +3
motor is nothing special, ceramic coated std pistons/rods, good clutch and valve springs, decompressed .080
i run 4 psi in first gear and step it up 2psi/gear , gets me quite similar thrust in each gear and makes riding hard very predictable , we do a lot of rides into the hills , usually 500km (300m)round trips on a sunday
we dont cruise much
i am yet to mechanically break down on the road , worst case was receintly when i had vapor lock on a 110 deg day after filling up with crappy fuel then stopping at the top of the mountain after racing all the way up , first real vapor lock and i suppose expected in the conditions ...high altitude (by our standards ) and low boiling point ethanol added fuel and a stop without a cooldown cruise, usually my normal riding buddys and i dont stop as often as these guys did
Its advances like the water/air cooler and electronics for better fuel, timing and boost management that let these bikes be used more effectively
the old FMU/powercommander combo with single stage boost was very limiting , and a slight problem in just about any part caused a lean out and $$$$$
About the only compromise the turbo makes is the bike length out of a corner , just means a relearn of riding style ,
IF and that's a big IF... If I lived in Florida or any state where the roads were flat and straight I would without doubt still be a turbo fanatic. Not that I'm not a turbo fanatic I just don't care for them on my street bike anymore and I don't drag race anymore either except for the occasional roll on race on a Sunday ride. I live in east Tennessee where we have some of the greatest roads anywhere on the earth to ride corners on NOT including Deal Gap which I absolutely have no use for because of the Disney Land crowds up there year round that draw LEO's like flies to dog sheeeet. That said we still have some of the greatest roads for corners and though I've ridden slammed and lowered turbo bikes for many years and thought they done fairly well in the corners I was only kidding myself. Being a better rider than most of the guys I rode with made up for a lot but when you hook up with some real talented riders of equal and better skill set noting with a long swingarm or slammed to the dirt will ever come close in any corner against a 1K or 600cc sportbike that's set up for corners with a good rider... BOTH bikes are more fun than anything else on earth and I wouldn't knock anyone's turbo bike because I love them more than most even though I have no desire for one anymore. My riding style and what I consider fun changed when Sport bikes got to the 10R level. I still have a ZX11 Turbo project sitting in my shop that I have no interest in finishing but don't want to part with either for some reason. You guys that are riding turbo bikes today should have had to work with what we had 25 years ago. Fuel injection and all the boost management stuff have made it much nicer and easier to do. It temps me nearly every day to build just one more turbo but then I ask myself about stuff like the cops and how they are INSANE now days about catching you busting 150 plus and it almost mean jail every time and a felony if they can prove you tried to run. Who ever though speeding would be a felony like it has become today? We use to get a ass stomped by the cops back in the day for stuff like that but not booked with a felony and jailed.. A turbo today would mean spending my golden years locked up in some jail for doing what come natural... Good luck on that to anyone with a turbo bike today..

Where they nail you for a felony is IF---------> If they can prove in ANY WAY and they go to great measures to attempt proving this... If they can prove you had knowledge they were chasing you. This means if their camera catches you glancing towards your mirror while they are behind you. If you head check or even make a motion like you looked their way they call in Felony Evading and off you go! I know a 60 PLUS year old man that bought himself a new Dodge Charger when these last ones came out with the big Hemi motor that was jailed and they attempted to charge him with a felony because he went way out of town on a nice long straight highway and wanted to open his new Hemi up and see what it would do. It was late at night and NO ONE else was anywhere around for miles to be hurt EXCEPT for that one state trooper that was hiding in the bushes{probably with someone's wife he had black maled into doing whatever to get out of some trumped up threats of charges he leveled against her.. }Anyway back to the Hemi..... The guy blew past the cop and had already slowed down, turned around and was heading home satisfied that his purchase was a good one when the cop lit him up and took his tail to JAIL and impounded his new car.. It was some insane amount somewhere between ten and twenty THOUSAND bucks by the time he paid the lawyer, fines, and got his car back out of impound. And all because some jack ass cop wanted to play god and wreck a man's life for endangering no one but himself.. This was like 3am on a deserted hwy out away from town and traffic. There was a time when COPS used some common sense judgement when deciding whether or not to level charges against someone for something like racing or excessive speed.NOT anymore it seems.
