Does tyres have a shelf life?
I have a pilot rd tyre spare for about a year now. Does the rubber get damaged with time or am I ok with keeping it.

Tires do age over time. Check the date code, look for cracks in it...sometimes dry rotting cracks are more evident when mounted on a wheel and actually inflated. Its probably ok going by just what you said. If you can store them in a big trash bag and keep em out of the sunlight under not so extreme temps you should be good.

Thanks. I know rubber gets harder with time but not sure if it's good for the tyre/tire. Just wanted to get your inputs and experience with the issue. What does the date code say Shipteey? Is it an expiry date indication or what. Can you use something to extend the life then?

Date code is week/year made ie 0114 is 1st week of 2014, It's in an oblong on the sidewall. Heat & sun/air ages tires, like shipteey said you can prolong their life by storing them in a cool area in a dark lawn/trash bag that's well sealed. Any tire over 3 years old would be suspect to me.
