ZX-14R ('12+) Crank in a ZX-14 ('07)
I'm sure this query has been asked many times, but can I install a Gen 2 ZX-14R crankshaft into my 2007 Gen 1 ZX-14? I'm gong to stroke my motor and I do not want to cut and weld my current crankshaft. And no, no engine swaps either, I want to use my current motor.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance.
ACE Performance in S. FL is going to be doing the 2mm x 2mm conversion.

from what I remember
gen 2 crank journals are 2mm larger. but any good machine shop should be able to bore your gen 1 cases

Thanks!
The block will be going to Millennium for the re-fit.
So I will have them do it. I hope everything else lines up. Lol!

The Gen 2 is +4mm stroke. It has longer rods and a taller deck on the block. You may also want to check and make sure that the rod journals have not changed in size. That would throw an additional monkey wrench into your plans.
The 2x2 setup that Ace does is 2mm bore and 2mm stroke. The 2mm stroke still allows for a full ring package, as opposed to a 4mm stroke which usually results in a 2-ring package. Gen 1 2x2 is a 1464, a 2x4 will be a 1510.

quote: Thanks, Shane, but he Gen 2 is only a 2 mm stroke more than a Gen 1.
The ZX14R's are in fact 1441 ccs.
Sal at ACE said that it may be possible to purchase an aftermarket "BILLET" 2mm stroked crank for the Gen 1. Albeit, it will be very, expensive, however, that seems that that will be that path I will need to take.
I want it built right, and right the first time.
You must thinking of the Hayabusa Gen 1 vs Gen 2. Gen 1 ZX-14 stroke is 61mm and Gen 2 is 65mm.

All due respect, I'm not confusing anything, it was you, who first said that ZX14R's had a 4 mm stroke NOT me. Lol!
However, you are right to say that the install that I want to do on my '07 ZX-14 is 2mm x 2mm, and being that the ZX-14R's have a 2mm stroked crank; I started this thread, hoping to find out if I can use a ZX-14R's crank, rather than purchasing a "billet" stroked crank. I do NOT want to cut & weld my current crank in order to stroke it 2 mm.
Thanks again and Happy New Year!

The Gen 2 is +4mm more stroke over a Gen 1. Please re-read my above post. 61mm for Gen 1, 65mm for Gen 2.

My apologies.

gen 1 have 2 model crank 06-07 and 08-11 and 2 model clutch basket, which use with a gen2 crank ?
it is best to buy another gen 1 crank and weld it
there is good chop to do it: MARINE.APE.FALICON
put a gen 2 crank in a gen1 case will cost you a lot more

yea youre better off just sending the crank to marine and having them stroke it. if you go to a 4 mill stroke youre going to need new pistons or shorter rods.

If you use the gen2 crankshaft you will also need a gen2 clutch basket gear. better off sending your current crank out and having it stroked.

I'm not sure why one would ever bother with a 2mm stroker crank. A 4mm is only useful if you want to use stock stroke pistons with the short Carrillo rods. That's something I don't recommend due to excessive rod angle and decreased piston dwell time.
Just put a weld-up 5mm in it from Marine Crankshaft.
Get the Carrillo HD H beam rods with the short bolts and you will have less clutch basket clearance issues compared to standard gen 1 Carrillo h beam rods.
There is a new custom piston that's soon to become a shelf piston that we designed with Carrillo on a new box forging that works awesome with a gen 1 head on a gen 2 motor. We have been running them for over a year now and they are very high compression and will be available soon.

why gen1 head on gen 2 motor?
I though the buckets and cams are bigger on gen2 ?
ok gen1 has cam pos sensor, cant we delete that cct with ecu flash?
this would allow full gen 2 motor on gen 1 chasis and ecu?

Gen1 head has smaller combustion chambers and it boosts compression. The buckets are the same size. Gen 2 cams will fit in a gen 1 head, and a Gen 1 head flows fine when ported, much more than a stock Gen 2 will, overall.

What's the static compression on a 14R block and Gen 1 head? Will it require 93 octane? I'm really considering doing the swap. I have and 08 SE.
