cam timing for hp above 10k
Hey Guys
I have a mate with a zx14 motor in a landspeed car liner ,
motor is stock at the moment , and i am going to flash the ecu (08)
but i was thinking extending the rpm range is not going to achieve anything untill the cam timing is set to move peak power above 9500rpm
my feeling is 110 deg or more centrelines
anyone done similar and want to share there dyno graph or just comment

lot of work for 2 peak hp moving them cams from what I've seen . i'd just get rid of the soft limitor ,speed limitor, and put a 200 shot on it and hang on

We have them set at 107-108. Power peaked at 10,896 according to the dyno but the head has been touched up and we have 47mm throttle bodies as well. Stock bottom end. I thought about trying them @ 109-111 as that's the highest I've ever heard of anyone trying but I was told that it didn't make hardly any difference upstairs compared to the 107-108 they're at now but you'd lose midrange and we need that for drag racing off the line. Not so much of a factor for land speed racing I'd guess.

my oldschool drag bike buddies use big numbers, 114 or so , but there also huge ports carbs and cams
they may have to look at something like you did Smokinstorm to be able to use the higher rpm range effectively
barely use mid range and no penalty for being a bit slower out of the hole in salt LSR , probably affect you more in a 1 mile event though
Nos would be fun but its another class , at least in a car it would have room for a big bottle

I can't understand how everyone is making the cam numbers with the high LSA's work. I've got Carpenter cams and I've tried their recommended numbers 110/112 as well as 109/105 and 107/110 and non of them performed as well as 105/105 (stock numbers). The other numbers nosed over at high rpm while the stock numbers pulled all the way to redline.
Am I missing something?
