Wiring help with cartire conversion
If I hadn't just shaved my head, I'd be pulling out some serious clumps of hair right now.
So, here's what I'm doing;
-Mounting zx14 engine in a car tire chassis.
-Using most of stock wiring harness and ECU
-Eventually(if I can get it running) hooking up MSD SB6 and Bazazz fuel controller
-Eventually(if I can get it running) two stages of nitrous(one small dry and one bigger wet) with Daytona NC-2 progressive controller.
Here's what's happening;
-I've plugged everything into the motor that is there, installed a 100 ohm resistor in the ignition switch(toggle)
-when I disconnect the ECU, it all operates as it should. Hit the starter switch, and the solenoid clicks (starter disconnected) as it all should work.
-As soon as I plug the ECU back in, the starter solenoid clicks on it's own, even with toggle switch off, and handlebar switch off.
I can't figure this out. HELP!!!

If it's any consolation I have a ZX-14 in a car tire chassis.
I am running it with the factory wiring harness, ecu, injection etc, with a Bazzaz unit.
I don't have my schematic available right now but I do have a couple dumb questions.
Have you studied the schematic concerning the handle bar switches and are sure that the switches you are using are correct? Section 6-12/6-13 Check out the connections shown at the bottom of the page for all the associated switches.
I'm sure glad that I didn't have the problem that you have because I wasn't smart enough to disconnect the ecu. I just wired it all up and then connected the battery. Thankfully all went well.
Give me a shout if you don't get this figured out soon and I'll dig out my schematics and do what I can to help you through it. I don't remember the ecu being directly involved with the activation of the starter. There has to be a logical reason why the starter tries to engage when you plug in the ecu.

I'm going to bring the ecu into Kawi on Tuesday and see if they can plug er in and test it somehow. It's just strange that the solenoid seems to be on constant power, but only when the ecu is plugged in. I have the tip over switch hooked up, kickstand switch bypassed, I'm using the stock right side handlebar switch. The only thing I don't have is the keyed ignition switch. As far as I can research, the 100 ohm resistor in between the gray and brown wires and toggle in between white(+) and brown should act as the same thing.
My father in law came over and is a wiring wizard(although not with vehicles) and we checked it all over together with the schematic, and all checks out fine.
the only thing I can see happening is I don't have the guage cluster or fuel pump or fan and other misc. things not required to turn it over hooked up.
or the ecu is toast
arrrgghh!!

After looking at the schematic (16-13) I believe that the 100ohm resistor should go between the Brown and White (Battery/Ignition) not the Gray and Brown. It appears that the Gray and Brown are for the brake light switch on your front brake lever.

I think you may have followed the wrong lines on the schematic, but regardless, I tried that and had no luck there. I ordered a new solenoid ($120 from dealer, $8 from china with free shipping) and I'll start there. I work in camp and leave tomorrow afternoon for two weeks, so I won't be able to check it for a while, but I am hopeful

I wasn't following the lines I was looking at the bottom of the schematic where it show what wires are connected when the switch/switches are in a given position.

The handlebar switch is g/y and br. Green/yellow and brown.
Must be a typo on the ignition switch diagram(mine says the same) the second brown should be the gray. If you look up to the switch on the schematic, you will see it.
Kawi service was no help whatsoever (surprise!). When I get back from camp, I'm just going to trace back the entire system, and see if something is amiss. I need to hook up the fuel pump and go from there. Kawi service guy said as long as I unhook the solenoid trigger wire, I won't fry anything for my test.
Back to square one, doing it the old fashioned way.

Big update...
ITS ALIVE!!!
Turned out to be a bad ECU. I changed out the relay box first, with no luck, then changed the ECU, and got her going!! I'm just in the process of stripping all the useless wires out now, which is a huge job in and of it's self. Then I have to try to mount it all, and then shorten the whole harness. (Fun)
The motor runs great. New homemade header and pipe sound very different than the old KZ, but cool too. I built the header for a future turbo upgrade, although that will be well into the future... I'm proud of my progress so far, and I might actually have a chance of getting this beast down the track once or twice this year

Quick question TR...
Can I remove the inlet air temp sensor and atmospheric pressure sensor?

No if you want the ECU know how much fuel to give to the engine...

Some have replaced those sensors with resistors. The idea is that by making the ecu think that all conditions are constant the bike will be more consistent provided you make the necessary adjustments in the fuel map according to the given conditions your racing in. jes my .o2
