18t front sprocket
I will be replacing my chain soon so I will also be replacing my sprockets. Has anyone gone to an 18t front and then say a 44t rear. That would keep gearing close to stock. Just wondered peoples opinion on this before I pulled the trigger on the new parts.

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish with the gearing.
That being said the larger your front sprocket the easier it is on the chain.
I had asked on another forum about using a 14tooth front sprocket with a 630 chain and was told that it could be done but the chain would not last long.

FYI..........If you ride on the street and HWY - In my humble opinion (oxymoron of course) the best set-up for a 2013 ZX-14 with 200rwhp (after the standard mods) is 17/38......Still power wheelies like a buggar and gives you a wonderful/controllable (road racing style) first and second gear long powerband (without TC which I hate), along with reasonable gas mileage. Try it.

Complete castration?
Not everyone is a fly weight and at sea level. Too many variables to be so sure of something like this. Plus, lilryan is considering a 6-10" stretch. I think going the other direction makes more sense. 16/43 maybe? Jesus!

What do you mean, you American guys don't weight the standard race suspension 'sweet spot' of 170lbs?

I am around 175 in full dress. The reason I was asking about the 18t front is that I had read that it was easier on the chains. I hadn't see where anyone was really running that front with like a 46t rear. I just wondered what people thought of that. The 18/44 is about the same gearing as stock, but I thought it would be easier on the chain.

I tried 18/41 on my current 14 turbo , just calmed it down a touch. it made a couple of hundred rpm difference.
I know thats not relevant to yours but it was a solid front sprocket ,if you do change it do so to a rubber damped one .I got cheesed off with the noise from it........

Thanks for the advice. I did buy a vortex front, so hopefully it is not too loud. I will be running 18/46 so we will see how it goes.

I've been running the same 16t front sprocket and chain for 6 years now. No way would I buy a bigger sprocket JUST to be better for the chain. No need for that.
Get the right gearing you need,

That gearing will really be like 2 up in the back so it will be a little quicker than stock. Should work out i hope.

Thanks

I will be going with 18/46. I have all the parts, just don't have them on the bike yet. Plan on getting everything put together next week. I will update the thread when that is done.
