No disrespect to MotoCycho but...
- about $1000 more on the MSRP, but if anyone is that concerned about money then don't buy a ZX-14R but get a Honda CBR125 instead
- weighs more - but you wont notice the extra weight.
- more electronics to possibly fail - but the electronics are VERY reliable
- linked brakes - nope, the front and rear brakes are separate unlike some of the Honda CBS brakes
- confirms your alternative lifestyle - yep just get a bike, relax and enjoy it as they are just so cool
I guess if you are just drag racing then ABS isn't much use, but I say get the ABS version for street use.

We don't have a choice in England, it only comes with ABS. Can't say it feels any different to my 2006 14 though, just the usual really good Kawasaki brakes. It's reassuring when stopping from over 200mph in 600 yards or so at the end of the runway in LSR meetings but I don't do much road riding on this bike.
My 2010 Honda Fireblade had ABS too, I bought it for road riding and it certainly saved me from grief on at least one occasion.

If it was available on my 2012 I would have gotten it. Personally I would rather have a bike that can stop a little better in an emergency situation even if it weighs a little more or costs a little more. I would gladly pay $1000 to avoid a broken bone or road rash if that we're an option. Just my 2 cents, especially due to the fact I take my wife on the back often.... Then again if my bike was a drag bike only I would not want the extra weight...

Ha ha! No disrespect taken because aside from the "linked brakes".. to which I just made an incorrect assumption (based on what I have seen Honda do ironically), you have not disqualified anything I have said.
- costs more
- weighs more
- takes more computers and hardware (twice as much since brakes are not linked)
- helps you taste the business end of a man
Ok.. that last one is in jest. No one get all offended and shit.

Just ask Smokin on his forum I read where he had someone pulled out in front of him in the shutdown area while racing and he locked em up and went down. He had to replace some plastics and such. Not one mention of ABS on the forum though. But you know with it he would have not wrecked. Lets face it you may only need it once like I did in my 4 wheel vehicle but that was good for me.

I really like both the ABS and traction control that comes standard here in OZ.
For street riding in poor conditions its gives a lot of confidence.
Also makes launching a breeze on unpredictable surfaces.

I've had abs on a couple bikes and it is worth having for a daily street ride. I couldn't pass up the deal on my '12 14r and the price difference would have been much greater than $1k, closer to $4k. That said my 14 won't see much commuter duty. That falls to my Tenere that does have abs. The 09 concours I had was equipped with and and it never caused any issues, although the rotors were rubbish and wouldn't withstand high speed work.
However, I would not assume that an abs bike would prevent a given crash. If you're not paying attention it's likely you'll just t-bone that asshole that pulled in front of you in a more controlled fashion rather than stop short of it.

I pulled a stoppie in the rain on a cbr600rr ABS at the press launch. Have no issue with ABS. Does some amazing stuff for you ESP on the street.

I have a 06 ZX14 with no ABS. Next bike will be with ABS.
This is MCN controlled panic break test, in a real panic breaking the difference would be bigger.
Thers a lot of things you have to do right and in right order to get the best breaking and thats not easy to do in just a second or two.
Yo have to get your balls to the tank and squeeze your thighs around it,look up and forward, straight back and loos arms. Only use 1/3 of the breaks power so the forks settle and then you can squeeze harder but not so hard that you lock the front wheel. When you have brought your speed down to 30-40mph you can apply the rearbreak but not to much so you lock it up and then when you have got your speed down to 15ish mph you can pull your clutch. Thats a lot to get right in a sec or two when your heart is going at 200mph.
The downsides are few and not big, the plus side is 1000 times bigger then the downsides.
I dont see whats the issues with a extra computer should be, if your sceard of some electronics you shouldent have bought a ZX14 in the first.
And for those that do not dragrace, i can guarantee that you wont feel the weight if you tested a ABS vs non ABS.
The price, well yeah i bought a non ABS a couple of years ago my self becouse it was cheaper, i havent been in a spot yet where ABS were needed but i still regret that i didnt chip in a few more bucks for a ABS.

I wasn't sure if I would like ABS, but the green only comes that way. Now I'm glad I have them. This thing stops!!
