2012 zx14R dynoed with too much oil....?
I finally got my 2012 dynoed the other day (198 hp and 116 tq) and I knew I had my oil right at the top line in the window (measured after warmed up and waited a few minutes- used bubble level and telescopic mirror). I asked the dyno guy if that was ok or should it be drained a bit. He said it was fine. After I received my bike back from the dyno tune, I noticed that it was running on the hot side (reaching 203 degrees pretty fast at traffic lights). It usually creeps to about 180 normally, so this alarmed me. (it was 63 degrees outside with a breeze).
When I got home, I noticed that the oil catch bottle on the left side of the bike had about 1/2" of oil in it that wasn't there before. Am I ok if I just let some oil out of the engine and bring the level to half way up the site glass and clean the catch bottle or could I have any possible issues including a very oily air filter that needs to be cleaned from oil in the air box?
Do you think having the level at the top line (not over) could hurt anything since it was on the dyno getting full revs???? I'm a little worried about it......
Thanks..

dont think the extra oil is causing the heat issue--may just be coincidence--fan wire left unhooked after the session?-- or your dyno guy may have you runnin a lil on the lean side(hence more heat)--if you have the run graphs check AF's. if it all checks out--ride that puppy!!!

Thanks! Do you know if it's normal to have oil in the oil catch bottle on the left side of the bike? I just noticed it after we dynoed the bike. It's about 1/4"- 1/2" high. Does that indicate a too high oil level? Does that mean the air filter will be saturated with engine oil?? Am I being over paranoid??

ok hear is the deal on the catch bottle-there is a breather tube in the crankcase--if u have your oil level at the upper limit--which is your case --and u rev the motor to its upper limits--which u do on a dyno pull/tune--the crank and pistons are moving so fast that some of the oil is turning into a mist which is being push up the tube by crankcase pressure--and winds up in the catch bottle--since most folks dont turn into the highest side of the tach, they never see any thing in the catch bottle,---answer to your question is--if you dont plan on redlining the motor then your level is ok--if you run it hard and catch a lil oil(keyword is a lil)
then it probably normal---and no not paranoid--you just seem to care!! nice to see
Have a great day!!!

That's good to know. I emptied some oil last night and rechecked it. It was perfectly in the middle of the lines. I went out for a ride, (did a couple of fast runs) came back, waited 10 minutes and re-checked the oil level. To my surprise it went right back up to the high mark! I don't know if checking the oil in the morning ( idle till 165 degrees-running temp) shutting off- waiting 10 minutes and checking would be any different than checking the oil 10 minutes after a stout ride... I'll have to check it again today.
