SW Moto Alu-rack

I am mounting a Alu-rack tail rack on my '08 ZX14 and need some help with fit. I recall reading somewhere that this rack fits the EU. model without modification but the N. American model needs some cutting. It is the plastic tail piece that wont fit back on with the rack base mounting plate in place. Has anyone done this modification and can give me some direction. Pictures wpould be good. Best would be if I could get a template before I start cutting.
Thanks.
Dave.

Don't cut the plastic ! , order the plastic part for the tailpeice from a EU. model, it has the cut out for the handel, that comes on the EU. model , it will fit , and you still have the stock no handel peice.

Installed a EU. handel on my bike ,used the factory plastic , it is easy! have the rack you are talking about , not on yet, way heavy! $167.00 worth of steel , small alu. top peice.
EU. handel $132.00 shiped, $19.00, tail peice plastic part factory parts EU. bike.

If you look at the tailpeice the littel "v" shaped peice above the tail light comes off, replace it with the EU. part number, the SW Moto brackets will fit through the handel holes, the rack , uses the handel bolt holes.

Am I understanding correctly? The EU tail piece which will fit is $19. The EU handle accessory , which isn't necessary, is $132. Is that correct? Is this an after market price or is this OEM? Will the handle fit with the Alu-rack? I have the soft luggage plate accessory.
Thanks,
Dave.

The tail piece is off. Mounting plate is on. The side (rear) panels are back on. What are these handle holes of which you speak? Is this something on the EU tailpiece? So the EU tailpiece should slip under the mounting bracket and attach to the original screw mounting points. Correct?

You dont need the whole tail peice just the part from the EU tailpeice that is in the middle , It comes apart easy!
Call kawi. parts, ask for a EU tailpeice middle peice , it will have the cut out, you don't need a handel as both the handel and SW motec frame both will not fit.
Ordered mine from some kawi. dealer parts dept in Seattle , look at the online part's fish, find the number, then order & wait !
if both sides are on you must have taken the tailpeice apart, you just need the middle part. in OEM ,EU,model!
Some OEM parts supply house's have online part's fish ,you can look up your own part's number's first before even talking to someone !
want a parts view of yuor bike , just look at the part's fish.

I've searched parts bandit and a couple of other on line parts supply houses under OEM parts and can't find that piece. Everything but. Strange!!! Do you remember where you got yours. If you still have the invoice, could you give me the part #
Thanks,
Dave.

Thanks for the help . I found it once I looked under "optional Parts" instead of "cowling". Now I have a part #. I'm on the right track. I'll order tomorrow.

I ordered the right piece(I hope) from local Kawi shop this morning. Without your help, I would have been breaking things with a fine tooth jig saw. Couldn't have done this without you. I was able to just tell parts dept. to order this part #. .Thanks for all the help.
Dave.

Sometimes, large dealership's have their part's ordering online , they have exploded view's of all the bike part's , sometimes called part's fish , diagrams of how all the parts fit together. and every part number ! OEM It's good to find one and look for yourself , counter sales people might not understand what you want sometimes , nice to have part's #

Post up a photo so I can decide if I want my rack mounted , the grab handel not much, to bunge a small bag on ! would love a good look at one on.

That's the least I can do. It's going to take 7-10 days to arrive then I'll see about a photo spread.
