Downs Goes Justoyz

Well, laid my bike down in an low speed accident.... did 10k worth of damage/labor/shipping.... bike has only 2000 miles.... retail value of the bike it $12,565.
I have added $8500 worth of extras.

Q1. Will the insurance company (SF) allow the added components as part of the value?
Q2. What percent do they use to determine total loss?
Q3. Is there any value in doing a buy back?

All damage is comestic, police calculated my speed was 8 mph from the skid marks.

I have calculated the overall value at $22,267.85; this replacement value of all parts listed (BST wheels, McIntosh Alumi-street arm, Carbon fiber heel guards, Brock's steering dampner, Pc5, WB2, Brocks Clutch mod, Spencers cycle fully adj lowering links, AH2 pwd coated) All items were installed in May/12, same as bike purchase.

They'll probably only cover what bike is worth n just total it out as a loss, unless u opted for additional coverage it'll be ur loss

Fish,

Yeah, I am okay, lil sore.

Biggmoinic,

Thanks, don't think I will allow them to total my bike and lose the 8500 bucks in added equipment and get nothing for it.. SF don't require you to purchase additional insurance. As long as you can prove the item were purchased (i.e. still on the bike)

The insurance makes the call , not you .. If the damage is 80% of book it's a total ..You will get somewhere between trade and retail price . You will not get anything for your add ons because you didn't add them to the insurance .. You will not be able to buy the bike back , there will be 300 scrap yards bidding on it .. If they total it you are done ..Sorry .. and glad you are ok ..

When I had progressive they included 3-5k worth of extra equipment free of charge. Sorry I can't remember the exact amount but all insurance companies are different. You should be able to check your policy info online to see your coverage.

When my brothers bike was totally he was compensated by SF for extra parts but I don't know how much and he didn't have extra coverage.

i know for a fact they don't cover turbo's on turbo bikes .. so is a turbo considered extra equipment ..

heck they don't even want to cover turbo bikes at all.. saying turbo to progressive is bad..

all of the damage is cosmetic, the pic I took on the scene were not that good. The owner always get first opportunity to purchase the vehicle, prior to it being sold via auction.

there are about 26 line items that recieved some type of damage, wether it's a stracth, gouge or broken... upper fair, both head lights, L/,R fairings, L/R grills, fuel tank, L/tail section, L/lower fairing, fender, both mirrors, bar end, oil pan, exhaust etc... those things adds up....

I will find out by Monday what the adjuster has to say. I will be there to defend my property. The avg retail for the bike is 12,565 w/8500 worth of add ons (just added on in May at the time of purchase).

I did do some research on how the adjuster work and there is an abertration if we don't agree. There is alot more to it than accepting their offer.... I will ensure i pass on what else I learn during this proccess

dam bro sorry to hear bout your accident.

I have State Farm as well and the agent told me that unless they have all your after market parts on file, meaning pictures of the add-ons on the bike and a copy of the receipts, that you wont get anything extra for em. When they told me this i sent them pictures of everything with the receipts and they have confirmed that its in my file, plus i have a copies of the email traffic. So no everytime i buy something and attach it i send them a picture with the copy of the receipt. All this was brought to my attention after my buddies bike was stolen and state farm didnt pay for any of his bolt on parts. Good luck bro!!

Justoys2,

See Note 2 of our FAQ here:

BST Product Information Page – Does my BST 2 year manufacturer’s warranty cover road hazards, crash damage or theft?

It might give you some direction.

State Farm will cover road hazard damage on BST's as part of your collision insurance policy, as long as you have proper documentation. I'm sure a crash would not be a problem **IF** you have the documentation.

Let us know if we can help.

LaSantana, thanks for the Info! In your friends case he had a theft. All parts are on the bike, so there is no issue of providing proof. I will confirm today what they will cover and will not.
Brock thanks, there were no damage to the wheels. I have been thru what you are talking about with a set of chrome wheels. They did cover them. I think coverage is an issue when theft is involved. I will post what I learn today after my conversation with my agent.

Thanks again everyone

Justoys2,

By documentation, I mean receipts for your purchases or the ability to prove exactly what product (s) are on your bike to establish replacement cost - assuming that is how your policy is set-up.

If we need to e-mail you receipts, just let us know.

Brock, thanks again.

Just talked with my agent. He confirmed the coverage is there for all aftermarket parts. With my bike being fairly new
I would more than likely get new value replacement if any of them are damaged. It would increase the value in the event of a total loss. We will see what the claims folks say this week.

Justoyz2,

Sorry for the slow reply previously - Me and my entire staff are on kill in preparation for the dealer expo, + I bring 80% of them to the event on Friday ( to meet the dealers they speak with throughout the year), which leaves us short staffed here at Brock's.

But, it sounds like we were able to help you out, even with all the chaos going on internally (:

Hope you are back on the road soon.
