my buddy had the same thing happen to him at the track luckily it was only one tooth. After hearing that and other failures with aluminum sprocket i opted to go with the super sprox sprocket, aluminum body and steel teeth plus they pretty sweet looking as you can get the aluminum center in different colors but the teeth all come in black. My buddy went with their sprocket as well and loves it.

well he wasnt sure, he did mention that they werent too worn and that he has ran with worse looking teeth before but for the added insurance of the steel teeth over the aluminum id say its worth it. Also even with the aluminum center the fact that it has steel teeth it is a bit heavier than the all aluminum vortex so its one of those give and take situations

I've never been sure about the wisdom of using an aluminium sprocket on a bike like the 14. I use steel for LSR and sprinting.
Maybe use aluminium for circuit racing where unsprung weight is more important - but for those guys a new chain and sprockets every race or two is the norm. They don't wait for things to show wear or fail.

My alum vortex sprocket has MANY passes on it (at least 1,500-2,000 passes and it looks fine.
The turbo Busa I ride has a vortex alum sprocket and its 450hp..
I haven't had any problems with alum sprockets. Maybe I've just been lucky.
