Practice.......wow I need a lot of it.

There was a " bike bash " event at the local track by me yesterday. I did much better than I thought I would being that I have not ridden in 4 months. I made it to the 4th round of eliminations and lost out to another 14 that was stretched, air shifted, and who knows what else. I lost that final race by inches at the end as I was running him down and just about passed him.

Inconsistency is a bitch!

Normally, I'm within 0.12-0.15 on most of my passes when I race regularly but not yesterday. Yesterday because of rider error( wheelies, slow R/T's, 1 or 2 times touching the limiter) I was all over the place, by like 0.45. My setup hasn't changed since I rode last, just my fuel ( was trying 90 octane non oxygenated ) and my mph was not so great. As I normally back end 30ish mph, yesterday was more like 26 mph on the far end.

I'm amassing pieces/parts to finally stretch the bike and make it a little more manageable but damn, SWB is tough sometimes.

I hope to this year get a decent amount of practice in and start doing more elimination events. Before 9/29/12, I hadn't done an elimination event in like 18 years, always TNT. Boy is it fun when you advance in the rounds!

1bad, sounds like you may have a lot more motor than I do!

On those days that you are all over the place, what do you feel is the reason? Rider, or is your bike that much of a handfull?

Conditions for me yesterday were stellar. No traction issues at all, actually in the beginning of the day, rolling up to the line, the track nearly pulled my boots off of my feet! The entire length was nicely prepped and the only bike that I saw that was having issues was an 11' Bimmer that went sideways and dumped about 20 feet off the line. The rider blamed his rear tire on that one.

at some of the tracks i go to i can see 1 bike get down the track no issues ..while 10 others go right behind him with the same set-ups can't .. spin tires like if they was in the water box .

I've seen that myself as well. I've noticed that at the track that I go to that when they have an all bike event, they seem to lay the VHT all the way down to the 1/8th mark.

I was told that the track yesterday was as good as it was because there was supposed to be a top fuel event the week before that got cancelled but I always thought it was the opposite with the fast fast cars rubber remaining on the track and big fat grooves to aim for.

I've had problems at that track a few times past the 1/8 mile point though with traction and spinning in the top of 3rd but I'm not running a sticky tire yet.

i usually never have down track traction problems now a days or shifting issues.. if i get a clean launch its like auto pilot the rest of the way down the track .. but i blame myself that i don't have it set-up to get off the line on a bad track .. gonna change gearing from 17/45 to 17 /41 and shorten the chain up about 2 inches .. i really don't care what that 60ft number is as long as i can repeat it 10 out of 10 times .. ok i'll settle for 9 out of 10 time

I'm with ya' there on the repeteability factor. I did manage to stay calm on the line for the most part,,,,,, even when the bike wheelied the 4-5 times in first gear. I passed on 1 wheel in second gear a Beull running a bar and slick. That was fun!!!!
