Some winter mods with tear down pics
OK after getting rid of my 06 GSXR1000 I built the motor 2 seasons ago and since it's a nitrous motor and has a ton of passes The new owner wanted me to put new rod bearings in it, take the crank out and send it to APE and have it lightened and balanced. Send the trans off to be race cut. So here is a few pics just for something to view. this bike runs 4.90's like a bracket bike in the 1/8th.
Here I have the engine with the intake cam removed. Zip tie the chain to the exhaust adjustable sprocket. The intake cam is removed to get enough slack in the chain to pull it past the bottom guides to remove it from the crankshaft. Also i installed the cam back in position with the chain off of the intake cam because if you dont the buckets and shims will fall out of the head when you turn the motor over.

A quick look at an intake port from the Carpenter head.

After removing the flat billet oilpan there were no shavings in the pan or in the swivel pickup

Got to love those GSXR1000 3 piece cases. You can take the bottom case off without splitting the main case with the crank and rods. Be careful not to loose the 5 small o-rings when seperating the case. A sharp eye will notice that there is a 01-02 lower first geared trans in the 06 motor. Who needs a tall first gear for long roadrace starts.

Look at those pretty Crower rods and CP HC pistons

Crank and trans removed. no wear on the bearings at all. Rods and main bearings all look new.

And finally here is what really made this bike fast and easy to launch. It took a little setup time and it is very sensitive to rider weight so when you set it up do it for who will ride the bike. Another good thing is when you go to the dyno you can switch it from slider to hand clutch so you can operate the bike on the dyno. Only thing is it will set you back a grand but it was worth every penny.
