ZX14 wheel of what vintage? Mine is from an '06 ZX-14 and stamped R-0047. Mine has inner and outer bearings, cush drive components but no rotor, no sprocket, and no collars/spacers and no wheel balancing weights and I get 18.83 pounds. Your weight of 20+ pounds is inconsistent with osr's weight because that one was 22.0 pounds with sprocket carrier and rotor (and I assume rotor bolts) so your "missing" pieces should weigh a lot more than just 1.97 pounds. The rear rotor and 4 bolts alone are probably close to that. I suspect your powder coat added weight so that is no longer a stock rear wheel.

Also, when I put a 25 pound dumbbell on my scale it is very close to 25 pounds and the same with other dumbbells such as 20 pound so why would I need a new scale? I took a gallon of drinking water and weighed it and my scale shows 8.52 - 0.14 for the container and cap so that is 8.38 pounds for just the water. It is purified water, not just tap water. Of course I don't know if exactly 1 gallon is in there but it shows my scale seems pretty accurate since the water is packaged as 1 gallon. It is filled up almost to the top so I suspect they put a little extra in.

Last time I had a ZX14 rear wheel on my shipping scale with the stock tire it was 38lbs 10oz. 35lbs 9 oz without the rotor.

Just wheel and bearings, nothing else. Powder coating is so insignificant that it cannot be measured. This scale is accurate, the wheel is from an 08 ZX14.

wow so the rear 14 rotor (with 4 bolts I assume) is over 3 pounds? What vintage 14 wheel is that? That is pretty significant because the ZX-10R rotor ('06 vintage) with 4 bolts is only 1.7 pounds. Can someone else please check the weight of the ZX-14 rear brake rotor?

If there is really a 1.35 pound difference in the rear rotors (with hardware) between an '06 ZX-14 and an '06 ZX-10R, that would help close the discrepancy gap between osr's claimed 5 pound difference (with rotor) and my 3.2 pound difference without rotor. However I am not convinced a rear rotor is over 3 pounds because the front ones that are much larger are only about 2.7 pounds each.

About 2.7 pounds. All weighmasters know EXACT WEIGHTS!

No, the weight of the rear wheel on a ZX14 is 20 lbs, with the bearings. All other parts, rotor, bolts and cush weigh about 2 lbs.

Seems OSR is correct about the 14 wheel weight. I don't know about the front.

I know exact weights of stuff I have in my possession. Not stuff I don't have. Be reasonable. So that appears to only be a 1 pound difference in weight between the 10 and 14 rear rotors.

Look at the major discrepancy in weights reported here. One person is saying the rear rotor is 2.7 pounds and someone else is saying that plus bolts plus cush is only about 2 pounds.

OSR claimed "close to 10lbs..." which is still way off.

No, OSR has a pic posted of a zx14 wheel with rotor at 22.0 lbs on a scale.

My wheel weighs 20.3 - so the rotor weighs 1.7 lbs.

Please make it stop, lol:

I picked up a scale to weigh small parts:

For the really small stuff, it can read in grams. I will be using pounds and ounces for these:

Front:

ZX-14 Stock 2 lbs. 11.5 oz.
GSXR Stock 3 lbs. 5.2 oz.
GSXR Galfer 2 lbs. 15.1 oz.

All of the fronts are 310mm. Surprisingly, the stock 14 front rotor is lighter than the Galfer Wave for the GSXR.

Rear:

ZX-14 Stock 2 lbs. 14.3 oz.
GSXR Stock 1 lb. 12.1 oz.
GSXR Galfer 1 lb. 4.1 oz.

The ZX-14 rear rotor is 250mm, while the GSXR uses a 220mm part.

None of these weight differences are going to make even a 1 mph difference. But it is nice to know precisely how the bike is set up, and where the weight is coming from or going to. Every little bit can help.

Shane

This is what I am talking about. One person said the rotor is 2.7 pounds and JZX is saying 1.7 pounds. I suspect 1.7 is correct because that is what the ZX-10R rear rotor is with 4 bolts and the front ZX-14 rotor (from an '06) is 2.7 pounds and it larger.

You have obviously never had a ZX-14 rear rotor in your hand. It is huge compared to the 10R part. Why would you even argue these points??

The weight of my wheel without a rotor supports OSR's claim of 22.0 with the rotor. I am only estimating that to equal 22 lbs even, that my rear rotor weighs 1.7 lbs. It very well could weigh more, making the weight savings even more substantial if I didthe conversion.

The fact that your wheel weighs 2 lbs less then mine should point the finger of the issue at hand back towards you, your wheel, or your scales..

I do have a ZX-14 rotor, but it is the front, and the 2.7 pounds I got (no bolts) is consistent with what someone else got. I don't have a rear 14 rotor loose. I argue because people are sometimes giving me different numbers so I would prefer getting my own parts and weighing them myself and also people accuse my scale of being inaccurate but it is not. The water test helps prove that. My scale is a food scale that goes up to 30.00 pounds so it would have to be accurate otherwise people would get charged incorrectly for lunchmeat and such.

So the 5 pounds saved with the OSR kit for the rear would not be very effective for me because a lot of that weight saved is in the rotor where it makes the least amount of performance difference (other than in the axle itself). I bet 1.5 pounds less in the rear tire would match or surpass the performance increase of the 5 pound loss and at a much lower cost (especially if you already need a new rear tire).

I'll just stick with the front conversion only plus a lighter 60 profile tire up there and possibly remove one of the front rotors and caliper for even more weight reduction. I don't need dual discs up front because I don't go 150 MPH and then need to slam on the brakes to set up for a 60 MPH turn. If I go 150, I just usually let the wind slow me back down so that doesn't require any brakes.

So.... You don't want the motorcycle to go fast , run properly, steer ,or stop... but it will weigh slightly less....
Shanes weight loss information is comprehensive and accurate for anyone who wants to know (thanks for all the effort Shane) so your mass drivel is unnecessary at best .

Well I am over 100 posts so I think it is time I just vanish and never post here again. I will just do what I want with my 14 because that is my choice and it is fun. My 14 rear wheel seems lighter than what you are all reporting so I will just go with that so I have the reassurance it will handle the power and weight of the bike. The front wheel conversion is basically free because I could just sell my 14 front wheel for about what I paid for my 10 front wheel.

Thanks OSR for the freebie advice!
