I've given this topic a lot of thought as it comes up in forums and with friends all the time. The fact remains that the grey squishy stuff between your ears is what you need the most control over when it comes to motorcycles of any size. The power is largely irrelevant because you can get dead and even kill others on any size bike, and in many many ways. If you are mature and can make good decisions quickly then maybe motorcycling is for you? All that said, the 14 is a large bike. If you have the balance and coordination down then the size shouldn't be an issue. If you're not able to reach the ground with both feet & find yourself overwhelmed by the size, dropping the bike or worse is likely in store for you in the near future. Is the 14 a good bike for a beginner... no! But not everyone is the same and it's a free country... well.. assuming your country is a free country. Anyway, its not the same as a dirt bike in many ways.. but if you have that skill down then riding any bike might be as quickly mastered. Might not. You need to decide all that for yourself for sure.
Good luck and enjoy!

I rode 650 as my first bike ever .. For 6 months and then i got a 14 no issues or spills (knock on wood hehe) just pay attention. Now if u had said u wanna go with a gen 1 zx10 i would have told u you're crazy but the 14 is very smooth and forgiving bike. I have 09 and can only assume the new ones are that much better. With the power modes tc and abs and ur previous experience u gonna be just fine..

Now If only the insurance wasn't higher than the payments it'd be a for sure go. I think I'm going to wait until I can buy it outright so I don't have to get full coverage, the cheapest quote I got was $2,700 a year and some companies quoted me in excess of $5,000. I'm a 20 year old male with a perfect driving record but I have only had my license for 2 years and I just got licensed to drive a motorcycle a few months ago though.

I waited until I turned 25 to buy my 14r. Insurance quotes before my birthday were always $2000+ for a year, after I turned 25 I was able to get fully insured for $500 a year... Expect it to stay high like that until you hit that plateau.

if you check back a few years ago. Ther was a very fast GP rider from Japan named Noric Abe..he was a VERY experienced rider in MotoGP yet he was killed riding a durn he got hit by a bus! Bottom line. You ALWAYS have to respect ANY bike and PAY ATTENTION. The ZX14 is very fast and very deceptive since it so smooth. An inexperienced rider can easily lured into a false sense of security thinking that he has it under control. And very quickly find himself riding WAAY over his ability.
It is like owning a very powerful gun. You have to respect it because it can easily kill!
Ride safe and take your time. Personally I would wait a few years and ride some on smaller cc bikes first.

The 06' 14 was my first sport bike ever and I made it. Thankfully the only crash I had was on the strip due to busting an oil pan. It all depends on the rider other than freak accidents.

It's a big fast bike, but in the end it is your wrist that gets you into truble not the bike.

I just recently got a 2012 14r. Its the 3rd bike ive ever ridden in my life. 2nd ive owned. First ridden, 86 yamaha fj1200. Got it in 2008. I wiped out on it. Low sided it at 20 mph. I rode a ktm adventure 990 all last summer. Father in laws... let me borrow it. Bought the 14r just 5 weeks ago. Im in love! Best ever bike. Im comfortable on it, but I respect it. So far, so good. O, and never rode anything before I got the fj1200. Get the bike. Its awesome!

I took a few weeks judging the ZX-14 and the Hyabusa. It came down to the fact that the Kaw is a thoroughly modern machine with all the latest technology. Its engine has received a major update and is smooth as butter. The 14 is at the beginning of its product cycle so you won't be made obsolete any time soon. The instrumentation is state of the art and very easy to read. The seating position is extremely comfortable for such a rocket with only moderate weight on your wrists. The cosmetics are fresh, sharp and ultra handsome. Kawasaki is one of the finest bike companies and is extremely successful as a business.
The Hyabusa is about 12 years old. Suzuki Motorcycle declared bankruptcy three weeks ago and is trying to reorganize. It is experiencing a major cash crunch. The Suzuki auto division is kaput and dead. It has little money for research and development which is why Hyabusa has not changed in the years and will not change in the near future. The only upgrade it received was ABS brakes option. It has no engine mode control so wheelies can accidentally happen and rear wheels can easily break loose in wet conditions. Also, whereas it is a good looking bike, it is now 12 years old and is way long in the tooth. Seating is comfy but the instrumentation is a decade old and difficult to read. The bird is well past its prime.
Both Suzie and Kaw are offering ZERO % 36 month financing. The Kaw cost about $1500 more than the Suzie but that will be recovered at the other end when you sell.
It is your decision. I feel I made a good choice and went with the ZX-14.

I will agree with skytop Pedestrian ran a cross the road and i hit him, so insurance wrote my ZX14 off. So i was thinking of buying a Hyabusa but now I have made the wise choice and purchased a ZX14R just because the busa is out dated. the 14R comes with new technology although the In South Africa the kawa is more expensive its still a better option. I cant wait to take delivery of my Red ZX14R
