HELP PLEASE
Have a 2007 zx14 motor getting rebuilt. Heads ported and polished, bigger cams, tuned and dynoed! Pulled 4 times on dyno oil panned dropped and steel shavings in oil. Bearing material is gone and are rubbing steel on steel against the crank. Whats being done wrong, or what needs to be done to fix issue? Thanks

did the builder atleast plastiguage all the bearings to check clearances? look into upgrading the oiling system. 4 pulls on the dyno and bearings and crank are shot. sounds like it was too tight or not oiling right.

Clearances were measured. He said he used bearings with more clearance to make the motor lose....?? Never heard that before!

What is his warranty on the build? What is he willing to do about the problem? Things do go wrong for no good reason sometimes but he should stand behind his work.

I would assume that any builder would stand behind their work. If the motor blows up after a tune without seeing any street miles or races who is to blame but the builder?
Tell me of a builder that will build the motor and as soon as it is done walks away completely! That would be a builder that doesn't build enough to stay in business or has a good reputation for others to use. imo

that's sums just about up all of them .. from what I learnt the builder policies are as soon as its paid for... its a 5 minute or out the parking lot warranty.. which ever comes 1st https://www.google.com/#sclient=psy-ab&q=+motorcycle+engine+builder+warranty&oq=+motorcycle+engine+builder+warranty&gs_l=serp.12...6142.10427.0.13037.12.12.0.0.0.0.119.1291.1j11.12.0...0.0...1c.1.17.psy-ab.OjmwKskFhXw&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=daaf7480876f9d49&biw=1120&bih=577

For the money they charge how can they do that? Maybe that is going to be my next profession. If all I have to do is build a motor to start and run once it doesn't matter how it's built. Even a bad build lasts a few miles.
I did not know that...

automotive motors are a different story https://www.google.com/#sclient=psy-ab&q=+automotive+engine+builder+warranty&oq=+automotive+engine+builder+warranty&gs_l=serp.12...52381.56636.0.60271.11.11.0.0.0.0.149.1405.0j11.11.0...0.0...1c.1.17.psy-ab.y0L9-5i5czc&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=4094611875f4ec6e&biw=1120&bih=577 as you can see there is warranties from builders

1bad is correct. No one stands behind race motors. It is a "high performance engine".
You say how can they not when charging that much...
Have you broke it down by the hour of what they make (take out all expenses, including shop, tools, etc) and they aren't charging as much as you think.

I've built 2 engines and they still run. Going to do another one for a friend this week. When I did the first 2 I heat cycled them a few times. Then I rode them down the street a few times without goin crazy with high rpm. Both engines went to the track before we tuned them on the dyno. It's been 4 months for the first one and 3 for mine and they still run. I did use plastigauge on both but I would prefer to use a dial bore gauge and micrometer but I don't have those tools. But as far as a warrantee it seems most guys are on their own.

Perfect example. So lets say you toom it down the street and the motor blow up. Would you stand behind it or say well that's how thing go and have him eat the cost?
Lets go one step further. You build the motor, put it through a short run and tel him he needs to tune it. He takes it home, puts 50 miles on it and takes it to the tuner. It blows up. By all logic here he is squired. I understand that is how it is, what I don't understand is why he should be screwed before it actually gets to the track.
I know you all will correct me here but I believe and was under the understanding that a built motor is not complete until tuned. If it blows up during the ride out the parking lot or during the tune doesn't that speak volumes about a bad build?
Once the tune is done, well than he should be on his own, no warranty at all.
