Should I get a 2013 ZX14R

I had very little experience riding sport bikes, I've ridden quite a lot of dirtbikes growing up but that's a lot different. I've ridden a few sport bike ranging from 300-1000cc but never very extensively. I want the ZX14 because well...it's the best and I have the money/credit to get it and I don't want to buy something lesser knowing that I could've gotten something better. I know that I'm going to have to take it easy until I get more experience but I just really want this bike. So basically do you think I should get this even though I have little experience riding Sport bikes? I just really don't want to pass it up and then be disappointed.

You won't be dissapointed with the new 14R, just respect the bike and it will give you a lot of pleasure, assuming you will be road riding.

Yes buy the bike. Ride sensibly and It will look after you, you'll love it.

I was without a bike for about four years a while back as I was working away from home. So I decided to buy a 600 and ease myself back into riding. A costly mistake, I sold it after a couple of weeks and bought a big bike.

Thanks, and yes it will pretty much be for just leisure riding around my rural town and I'm sure I'll take a few trips with it, maybe take it to a track or two once I get a lot more experience.

All the money in the world won`t bring you back to life........The zx14r is the most dangerous motorcycle in the world....What makes you think you can start off with it and live thru it.You need to get a 600 and fuck up a few times feeling what pain is then and only then you might have a chance of living.Nobody can resist the 14r `s power once they tried it the first time. It`s like anything.. work your way up to the top.You have to learn about compressing time and space. It never ends.Your life depends on it.I have been riding bikes for 40 years and i still can`t say no the forward thrust feeling. The 14r goes from 0 to 150 in 9 seconds. It is just beginning to show you what it can do.

Only in the United states would people actually recommend a hyperbike as a good bike for someone with

" had very little experience riding sport bikes, I've ridden quite a lot of dirtbikes growing up but that's a lot different. I've ridden a few sport bike ranging from 300-1000cc but never very extensively."

type experience.

600 and practice for a while.

Do you really think I'd hurt myself, I'm pretty good size, I think I can probably handle it well. I'm not a speed demon either I got in a wreck going fast when I first started driving and I thought I was going to die so ever since then I've been really careful when driving.

If you get one, just start off slow, and stay that way for a while, and gradually step up, I have been riding many years, the last 13 on a busa and now a 14R I can tell you the first time I took it off traction control, and hit the throttle a little hard, the front end came right up ! don't take the power for granted, go slow and build from there, and be careful !

Even if you got a 600 you have to start off carefully, a 600 can go very fast, so I don't see the point in buying 2 bikes, you can ride, just treat it with respect or it will bite you.
In fact I think a zx14r with T/control is safer then a 600 without.

+4, get a 600... ease into. The 14R is phenomenal, but IMHO not a beginners bike. The new 600's have 100+ HP which does not sound like that much compared to the 14R but if you look back in the late 80's..... The fastest bikes had 80-90ish HP and were much heavier. Today's 600's are rocket ships that handle great,

+5 on a smaller, less powerful bike. Ride, learn and live to ride some more.

Even with T/C, lack of riding experience is NOT your friend with a bike that can....casually zip to major speed at partial throttle and rev's well below peak power. Learning throttle control for 150 HP (Low power mode), never mind full power, how to maintain control in a panic stop, avoid some hazard on the road, etc really isn't a option to just wing it on a really fast bike...it's literally just a question of the circumstances arising and then your lack of experience would be exposed in a very bad way which is likely pretty much EVERY time the 14R is running and in gear.

You could be very cautious, thoughtful and STILL be caught out because this bike is....casually capable of stuff you would have no idea what to do once the situation arises because of your admitted lack of experience. The judgement and expertise a 14R requires for you to get home safely from every ride won't come in a few miles on the road. So does that purchase still seem....wise to you?

Good luck,

I always find myself riding more like a jack ass on.the 600 than my 14s the 700 IMO is a more dangerous bike due to it building to much confidence to fast. I feel like I can hit any turn at any speed with it. And on the big bike. Sure they handle well but, not like a 700. I use the 14s on the highway or track. 600 and supermoto I use to bomb around town

Sorry as much as I'd like to say go for it, the Kawasaki ZX14 is NOT a beginners bike, no matter how much dirt bike experience you had at 12.

My first street bike was a zx14 back in 06 lol I than turboed it. It made 330 hp I've owned a couple more over the years and a nitrous booza that made over 300hp a nitrous 1k and some other bikes over the years. The ONLY bike that I get hurt on is my 30hp DRZ400sm

If you have ridden dirt bikes all your life I wouldnt waste my time with anything other than a big bike. Like others have said you will really regret the 600, especially if your a good sized guy.

When I make a pass on my buddies 600 I cant believe how slow it feels. Holy lack of bottom end. And after riding my bike once he sold his 600 and got a busa.

And you can hurt yourself on any sized bike. Stepping off a bike at over 100mph is going to feel the same if you were on a 14 or a 600 haha

Last but not least the big bikes are sooooo much more comfortable to ride than a 600-1000.

Very good point, a wreck is a wreck no matter what you're on, so I might as well get something with some safety feature like ABS and traction control.

IMO some guys can start on a bike like a Busa or zx 14 and some can't. with out knowing you it's about impossible for anyone on this board to give you an honest opion. they guys saying don't do it might be dead wrong and the ones saying do it might be the wrong ones.
