06 keeps blowin ecu fuse
Sorry my 1st post i9s a cry for help - but desperate times call for desperate .....
I have my own Sportbike Repair shop and have been upgrading a great customers bone stock 06 zx14. I installed a new Brocks Alienhead full system - cake install, did the lil red plug for the airbox and a new BMC filter. Started it and ran well but when revved high she would just shut off when the revs dropped. Customer brought me a used PC3 with what looked like an excellent custom map. Installed easily, though as y'all have mentioned before i had to work to get good ground. Bike started perfectly and exhaust fumes looked just a tad rich, idled nicely, almost no pop on decel. Let her warm up fully, then took her down the street a mile or so just cruisin at 5000rpm or less. Then i got my weight over the bars, whacked her open through 3rd gear - wow - and then she just shut off. Pulled over, turned key on and off, noticed pump wasnt priming, then saw the temp gauge on the dash flashing high/low. So I checked 15 amp ecu fuse, blown. replaced, turned key on- pop. Trailered her back to the shop and removed the PC3 and turned on the key- pop- 15amp blows instantly. Harness is immaculate and unmolested, batt is new at 12.9 off and tested at 14.3 when she did run. I swapped the ecu w another 06 and still- pop -. I see this has happened to several others when riding, stock and modded, wet and dry, but no real solutions other than obvious shorts (bank angle sensor, kickstand switch, etc.) I have called 2 dealers, 3 competitors (2 who race zx's), dynojet and Brocks - all no joy. Ideas?

it's got a short somewhere. Just a matter of tracking it down. When checking wires, make sure you have continuity for each wire and also check to make sure it does not ground out. No easy way around it...get out the meter.

Totally back track.Take everything back off in reverse order it went on.Have a real bright light while looking at every wire you came in contact and that is next to all areas you worked by. Something must be pinched.Check all around the exhaust pipes. You better hope like hell the short did`nt fry both ecu...............hope it`s a cheap fix as in just labor

unplug the fuel pump and try it. Have seen this happen before. It could be a shorted PCIII, never heard of it popping the fuse though.

Thanx for the rapid response guys. Didnt think of the fuel pump blowing fuses - thats what relays are for - but will give that a go 1st and then try the ever so tedious harness test.
