14R vs 1417
In your own opinion, which is faster, the new 14R with pipe/map or the older 14 with a 1417 kit w/head and cams? I have the 1417 and a friend of mines has the 14R. We're going to touch'um up today.I been looking to run the new 14R so that I can make my decision on whether or not to get the 14R sooner or later or stay with what I already have, based on the performance today.

Since a 1417 on an older model can be much higher compression and the cams can be quite radical, it's got much more power potential than the factory built 14R.

Your 1417 should kill the 14R.

Be sure to swap bikes and list all mods for both (such as exhaust, gearing, tune, etc).
A well-built 2 mill Gen 1 motor could be stronger, for sure. But you never know, based on rider and setup.

Shane I doubt if we will swap bikes. I'm the only one that I trust on my bike, lol! The 14R has the short Alien Head and Mapped. My bike has the 1417 built by Adams, head and cams, so it's built Good! We're both the same size and equal riding ability. The reason why this race intrigues me is because I keep hearing how the stock 14R is making right at 200 RWHP + I'm interested in one day getting the R. Same mods done to the R as my bike, and the R would crush my 1417.

A 14R with pipe will make right around 200 hp SAE, with no other mods, on a stingy dyno. Mine made 199...on a dyno where it only made 189 bone stock with <<0 wt oil. I would expect your bike to easily make 15 hp over the piped 14R.

Shane we will see what happens today. I will post it here. Once I get tha 14R in another or so, I will make the same mods, 2 Mill, head/cams. I don't think there's much u need to do to the head and I haven't heard of anyone boring the 14R yet. What cc will a 2 mill over make the R?

If you don`t have the ecu reflash your not getting all the power out of the 14r..........I rode 150 miles today.I just installed the brocks ct 17 ' and pc5 with his map.I reset the tps.With traction control off i tripped the saftey mode in 1,2,and 3 gears at different points on the ride.We have a great drag strip area to tune our bikes.All you have to do is be cruising in 4 th gear at about 6 grand the bang down to 2nd gear as fast as you can then w.o.t. throttle.You will be missing a whole lot of h/p instantly. I`m gonna wait till late spring to get the reflash and VOID my warranty.

Anytime a map is installed in a pc you should go ahead and reset it. It only takes 2 clicks of the mouse and twisting the throttle wide open.I always do it with the bike running.

so if you buy a 14r are you going to do head and cams on it or just slap a pipe on it and ride..

65 more CC's worth around 5-7 hp and 13.5-1 pistons are worth about 10 hp.
The real power on most motors comes from the cams/head combo ratjer then displacement changes as small as this. Of course the ZX14 has always been limited as far as camshaft options.
