Power Commander ignition Module or ECU Flash

Can you guys maybe shed some light on this for me. I am leaning toward the ignition module becasue i am installing a nitrous system. Seems liek it will give more tuneability for the long run. Althought i have been tossing around doing them both at the same time

I'm not any expert at all since I'm constantly trying to pick others brains here. BUT, I don't think you can do with the ignition module what most are wanting the reflash for:

raise rev limit
force flies open sooner
fix TC settings issue

Sold my ignition module, picked up MSD-SB6, never looked back very happy. This helps mix things up ?

even if i choose the sb6. How does that fair in conjunction wiht the brocks ECU flash. I asked becasue i know sometime there are timing adjsutments made with the ECU flash. I am wondering if i shou;d do both becasue i am adding nitrous to my bike

Bishopzx12,

You are actually speaking about two different items/ functionalities.

Our Flash removes the high speed limiter (good if you are going to land speed race above 186 MPH) and raises your rev limiter another 500 RPM. These extra rev’s are very handy for drag and land speed as it gives you more time as a rider to make your shifts + more average power during a run and allows extra flexibility in gearing selection.

We do add another degree of ignition timing with our flash, this helps for racing – especially with pump gas… but isn’t necessarily recommended for use with larger doses of nitrous. We can leave it out of you ask (call and speak to my sales staff when ordering) or you can tune around it.

***BUT*** when using your nitrous, it is always a good idea to have complete control of your ignition timing. The SB6 is a great way to do this – simply take one extra degree of timing out when you are on spray to compensate for the one added in our flash – then your bike runs its best OFF spray also. Most of our Real Street guys use the SB6 and control large doses of spray with no problem, so small doses are cake.

So, IMO to do it right – with minimal risk of engine damage and maximum performance at the track while on spray… you really need both.

FYI: we don’t sell the SB6 , I would suggest MPS racing for one of these: SB6 on MPS Site

Man you know it’s a great site when you get the man himself “Brock” to chime in on your post. I think I may do just that do both the ECU Flash and the ignition module… One question Brock before I make my final decision on SB6 vs. the power commander ignition module. I know most of the guys on here use the PCV for tuning just as I do. It seem to be great and it has been all I sued since I got my first FI bike. Is there any particular reason you and other members like the SB6 so much more over the PCV ignition module. They both seem to do the same thing. I ask because my tuner say he like both but there is nothing like have two units that are designed to go with each other. (i.e. power commander V and its ignition module).

Also doe the ECU flash work good with 93 oct. I plan to have the bike tune for 93, but if it seem like it needs more octane I may go to 110 or maybe even c16 for the track and use the map swapper feature of the power commander to change maps. Therefore I can run good on motor and nitrous at the track. And when I go to ride on the street before I go out I can just load a Brock map for 89oct for heavy street action.
