Finally got to run the 14r,damn electronics
My buddy brought his new 14r to the track last weekend. He was saying I was gonna beat him on my 06 and I was sure he was gonna beat me.he was right.I went a best 9.92@147 he went 10.05@151.he let me try it.I came off the line lower rpm then mine.went 10.02@149.almost felt like leaving in second .damn electronics. I'm sure it went into safety mode.next pass didn't do a burn out.blew the tire off.we then put it on the dyno,197hp113 tq with just twp brothers slip ons. I tried it right after that.there was like a glaze on the tire from the dyno.spun like crazy again.never got to try it again.bike makes crazy power but electronics hold it back.

Have you guys done a burn out ,pulled up to staging ,shut off the bike then restarted it.That should clear the safety mode for launching i would think.Then i guess you have to deal with it kicking back in from tire spinning in gears.

Yes we tried that've.no difference. Think it has to do with the rpm range we were using.between 4 and 6000.If I could have made another run.was gonna launch like mine between 7 and 8000 and see what happened but ran out of time

EVERYTIME u start the bike u have to reset the mode.

Oh we know and did .he even tried a run with TC on.no difference.

Yup you let the RPMs drop coming out of the hole and hello safety mode ...I have done it a few times and it feels like you are leaving in second gear ... smokin.....

why in the hell would they write firmware that goes into safety mode when the rpm`s drop.There is no danger at that point..How about the engine redlining but the front tire is stopped as in flipping over.

Mark Brock thinks it is this , when the bike bogs with the throttle wide open coming out of the hole it goes into safe mode .. Reason being when the bike gets back up on the cams real fast after the bog and the bike goes 12:00 O clock or loops the bike .. Not a problem for those how can ride but a new guy to a ZX14R may just loop the bike .. So what the safe mode does is cut power to keep this from happening ..I have felt it happen , it feels like you are in second gear and not first gear .. If you raise the RPMs stagging and don't let the RPMs drop to low it doesn't happen .. It is strange feeling when it happens.. Ricky had it happen a few times at vegas and didn't understand what was going on .. Brock also had it happen to him at vegas ..Brock was able to get the bike to do it on the dyno and found when the RPMs drop to low with a high TPS reading it would jump into safe mode .. Pulling the flies fixed it .. Now it can be removed with a reflash of the ECU and still have the flies in place . I'm sure the bean counters at Kawi had something to do with this safety mode ... Even with the bike having two power modes and 3 T/C modes kawi must have felt they needed that extra safety mode that was hidden from us to keep us from looping the bike in first gear ..

Lee thanks for the in depth explanation.I have watch Brocks video about the safe mode and i know exactly what you mean about getting up on the cam.These new 14`s snap to redline so fucking fast with such a violent forward thrust chopping the throttle is real hard.I`m planning on going to gateway in early october for a test and tune.Did you ever run your bike stock and strapped.Did it go into safe mode at that time every time.
