Go explore and enjoy your freedom. Most miles I've put on the 14 in a day is about 460.

Ride...only way to find out if you like it or not. Don't puss out and take the cage.
I've taken trips in the 4-6k mile range camping along the way. Best way to see this country IMO

Yep.
800 miles a day is a pretty good bit in one day. If you had a single man tent and camped one night it would be cake

Most I've done on the 14 is about 600 in a day. That was a nice ride. Take the bike and enjoy the trip.

Copied straight from their web site.... http://throttlemeister.com/
quote: A Bar End Mechanical Cruise Control for Motorcycles
Machined from Billet Stainless Steel & Ampco Bronze
Eliminates rust and corrosion. Maintains a lasting beauty.
Sealed by "O" Rings to Keep out Dirt and Water
Will maintain its smooth and solid operating feel for years. No maintenance. No need for lubrication.
Easy to Use
Engage by turning in the same direction as opening the throttle. Disengage by turning in the same direction as closing the throttle. Can be operated wearing heavy gloves. So simple to use that there's no need to leave it engaged when it is not needed.
Doesn't Take up Grip Space
Since we mount our Throttlemeister where the existing end weights mount you don't lose precious real estate on your hand grip, unlike the competition's. quote:
I run them on my 14 and love them. This is the first time i have ever had them and i dont know why i waited so long to pick up a set. They are a god send for long trips, helps stop the hand from falling asleep and allows you to be able maintain speed easily when you want to rest your hand for a minute. And very easy to shut the throttle if you run into that oh shit moment as well.

colt:
Your trip distance is well within the capabilities of the 14. The question that comes to mind is..gear because that makes all the difference on a road trip being enjoyable or not. Do you have rain gear if you ran into a shower?
As stated before, traveling by bike is an "adventure" far more interesting then by car. I'd add, stop as frequently as you need to be "fresh" and stretch your legs, etc. Lastly, I am off on a 2,000 trip on my 14R in 10 days so you can definitely do 800 miles so long as you go at the pace that suits...you.
Ride safe and enjoy,
Leo

here is a set on e-bay, they are listed here for the same price as throttlemeisters website.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Throttlemeister-Cruise-Control-Heavy-1987-2012-Concours-ZG-1000-1400-Kawasaki-/140785432782?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20c77738ce&vxp=mtr
the part number for the zx14 is (FH & AK1-H) all the H stands for is Heavy. You can also run (FT & AK1) which fit various other bikes. The only difference is the FT versions are not as big and heavy as the stock bar ends. I found a good deal on a set of the lighter ones and i am running them with no issues.

instead of a throttle miester, pic up a Throttle Rocker Original version. I have found that to be a much better deal to use. Trying to lock down the throttle on a 14 is almost impossible to modulate since it takes so little throttle movement to increase/decrease your speed. It allows you to relax both of your hands and still maintain consistant speeds.
Take back roads too...slabbing it sucks unless you just gotta make time.

I rode straight through from NY to Florida in my early 20's..... Back then I didn't have an ache in my body. Ride the bike man, you'll be fine. On the 14r I have gone 400 in 1 day so far and I'm 44, no soreness the next day.

Buy a cheap rain suit and RIDE.
I say a cheap rain suit because LDR may not be your thang, lots of people don't like it,lots do.
I love it. I'm leaving the 12th for a 2,500 mile trip on the 14R. Texas to Blood Mtn,Ga. and back.
About halfway through the first tank of gas,all your BS/cares/worries are Gone.
It's just you,the bike and the horizon. 400 miles is a good ride to find if you like it or not.
Your young,do this stuff now while you're able and the world is yours to own.
Don't be like some of us and be creaking when ya swing off the bike, lol.I've rode everything from a H2 to a Sporty then a Shovelhead to a ZZR12 and a C-14 across this land and now have a 14R.
GO,don't sit there,Ride!
See ya out there.
