Moto GP

This might be a stupid question , But does the Moto Gp racers gear their bikes different than regular street bikes , what im asking is it seams that they change gears by down shifting 1 through 6 when we up shift ! unless my eyes fool me and i watched it several times it lookes like their gear box is reversed !!!

Not a dumb question. The shift pattern is reversed on race bikes as it is easier to up shift a bike in race conditions with reverse pattern while leaded over and/or transitioning to and from corners.

Hence the name, GP pattern shifting. I never cared for it on the race track. I was too accustomed to the regular upshift.

Yeah, everyone I know who switched went back to normal shifting after a few "Oh Shit" moments on track as they upshifted when entering a corner. It's hard to transition back & forth, gottta stick with one method.

I almost blew up one of two sv650's of a racer pal. They were identical bikes except for one being gp shift and one not. I rode them back to back and forgot about the patterns and on the front straight at Texas World Speedway I went to upshift but, downshifted and ..holy shit......! Not cool.

Correct, race pattern gear levers allow an upshift when cranked over to the left - when it wouldn't be possible to get a toe under the lever.

Also, British bikes used to have the shift on the right side, just look at an old Triumph. I believe it was changed so that there was just the one standard for the world market.

I was thinking about trying the GP pattern but figured in an "oh shit" moment I would not be thinking, just reacting.... That could be a major "fail"...

I switched to GP shift and I never missed a shift till then. Before that I was missing almost every time the 3rd gear (with my quickshifter 45ms), now I normaly use it at 50ms and I feel that there is a gap after I shift so I will set it at 45ms normal and 35-40ms in a race!
