quote: You both are right- lol. The 14R is a great bike don't get me wrong but yeah I was a lil' disappointed. My stock BMW traps 143-145mph under the same conditions, and my 08 14 with an SS head traps 142-143. 139 is all the 14R would go with a 170lb ride like myself. Granted it's stock but with all the hype this bike has received, i'm disappointed. Big thanks to JV for letting me rent it, and saving me an extra $6k that I would have regretted spending.
I wouldn't be to disappointed the 10.15@137 corrected is a 9.19@150.7

Hell the 9.56@143.6 that I ran SWB stock corrected is a 8.89@154.2 and
With mine at 7" over the 9.30@146 corrected is a 8.54@158.96 so we're not that slow lol.

Lol. Here's my times from my two best passes this past weekend on the 14R. Only mods were lowering and 16T sprocket:
1.62 4.26 6.47@112.1 9.99@139.19
1.62 4.27 6.46@112.5 9.98@139.53
Best on my 08 with SS head back in May (similar conditions):
1.59 4.21 6.33@116.4 9.73@144.72
14R is a great bike- don't get me wrong. At SWB though, I just don't see it being more than .20 quicker than my 08. Most people would say .20 isn't worth an extra $5-6k in cost of difference between the two bikes. Just my two cents.

Go to dragtimes da calculator and enter the data from the date and time you ran and it will give you an idea of what it could run at sea level.

If you do that then my old Fz1 ran 8.96@152 and you know that bike would never run 8s even with a pro rider.

It went like 10.08@144 or so with a 50 shot didn't it and that was with an r1 head and cam and a thin gasket so with it extended it may be possible what was the air like that day. Anyway the thread is about the 14r being down on power but with his time and mph corrected its not that far off from what everyone else is running with better air near sea level.

You are compairing a stock bike Vs a bike with a SS head package, piped and tuned ? The gen 2 stock is what 188 to190 hp stock and a true ss package is around 207 HP piped and tuned ..
You put a 16 tooth on the new bike at stock wheel base ? Wrong ........ To use the low end tq of the new zx14r you need a 40 tooth or 39 tooth and a stock 17 on the front ..
Any i'm glad your happy with you old bike and if you don't want to speed the money for a new one that ok with me ..

What are your track elevations because we will never have a DA anywhere close to 2000' even on a very good day we are around 3800' and that's at the very end of our race season in November.

I live right on the beach so I'm only a couple of feet above sea level. The two tracks I normally run at are 12 and 15 feet above sea level.

Our track are also very close to sea level but in the mid summer it can get as high as 3800 DA .. In the winter we get close to 650 to 900 feet if we are lucky .. I have never seen it lower that 650 here .. But in GA motorsports park they have seen 900 below sea level .. That is the day i'd like to be there ...lol

We get good (negative DA) air here in the late Fall/early Winter and in the early Spring but the tracks won't open up if the temps are under 50 degrees. Cold temps. No traction. Accidents aplenty. Gotta hit up Atco, NJ if you really want some great air to run in.

You run at nosebleed elevations. It's a wonder you can even get an engine to run up there. Do you have to bring along your own oxygen to get it to run????

My SS head made 190 hp and 108 tq on pump gas. Ofcourse every dyno reads a lil' different. So that told me the 14R and my 08's power were about the same (with the 14R having an edge in TQ as well).
I was happy with the ET's (I predicted it would go 9.90'ish) but only 139 mph? Just seems low. :\

It's BAD here! Albuquerque is literally the slowest track in the country . Great place to train for marathons, terrible for drag racing!

Yeah people see the ET and MPH we run and think we can't ride or race for nothing but I guess they never race at tracks that are a mile high or close to it. I'll have to make a trip to a good track that's close to sea level so I can run in the 8s all motor also we have to gear our bikes down because of the bad air we race in I think it's like 3-4% loss in power per every 1000' of elevation above sea level so were down on power anywhere from 11-16% for the Roswell nm track and 15-21% for the Albuquerque nm track and that's just figuring the track elevation we have a DA of 5500+ for the Roswell track and 7400+ for the ABQ track so we don't do to bad for the conditions we have.
The 14r is a better bike than the previous models for sure I love mine as a street/strip bike and my 08 is track only.
So mike if you want a good bike for the street I would go with the new 14r even with the extra cost it's worth every penny

Rix- yeah for sure I know the 14R is a beast. It's power is smooth and comes on immediately. I just can't be as consistent on it at SWB as my Gen 1.
Wheelie- the 14R clutch was stock. My 08 has a Trackpac Clutch from Spencer Cycle and Brocks Clutch Springs.

08 Smokes I believe Smokin nailed your problem the 16T sprocket. Do the sprocket mod as Smokin suggested and go & test again you will be surprised trust me.
