14R down on power

Took the 14R to the dyno last weekend bone stock and it made 178hp. My 08 14 with bolt-ons and an SS head made 190hp on the same dyno earlier this year.

Took the 14R to the drags tonight- only mods were a 16T front sprocket, lowered, and strapped. Not launching too hard, with TC off and power in "F" mode, the bike was only trapping 10.15's @137mph and only 110mph in the 1/8th. My 08 14 does 9.80's@142 in the same conditions.

Is this a case of the bike going into "Protection Mode" like Brock was talking about, or maybe a problem with the bike possibly? Just riding around on the street it feels like a monster, the numbers just aren't showing at the track/dyno. Any feedback would be great, thanks gents.

The low dyno numbers are caused by to much air in the tire .. Put the tire down to 30 psi and try again .. Brock and others have had this problem on the dyno because the zx14R makes so much low end power and TQ it spins easy .

Safety mode is most likely causing your poor ET and MPH.. For now just pull the flies or send out your P/C for a reflash..

if you were not power wheeling so bad you had to let off a little in 1st and 2nd gears something is not right wth your power.

i thought the power was only down in the 1st three gears? how would it show on a dyno ? dont they dyno in 4th. also dont the flies open up at 35-- ish? theres something amiss with these bikes. i could wheelie 1st three gears when i bought my zx14 new without even trying. now it barely raises in 1st. only mods are no flies smeg exhaust and 41 tooth rear sprocket. i thought it was me at 1st. getting used to the power. i changed my oil at 500 miles, and 1000 miles. the oil looks like shit both times. i feel the motor might let go any time.

I went 8.50s with the bike and the safety mode had NOT been removed at that time .. BUT two runs i had both were a slow as hell , i thought i had left in second gear both times ..It fell like second gear and the ET and MPH looked like i had left in second gear , but i was in first gear both times .. The safety mode had kicked in on those two runs .. If you let the RPMs drop to low coming out of the hole and the TPS is reading high and the speedo sees something strange it will jump into safety mode ..

His low dyno numbers have nothing to do with the safety mode ... His tire needs to be at 30 psi or it will spin on most dynos and give a low reading ..

Thanks for the info gents, i'll most likely go with the Guhl Brock Flash.

I made four passes last night- 1st two in TC-1 and the result was a 10.35 and 10.30, both at 137mph (launching easily).

Last two passes of the night was with TC off and I launched a little more agressive and ran a pair of 10.16's, both at 137 mph as well.

The last two runs mph was 110.609 and 110.602 in the 1/8 and 137.563 and 137.555 for the 1/4. I've never had a bike that consistent, which is nice for bracket racing. But like everyone else here, I want that power too! Lol. Thanks again for your responses.

I was very disappointed when I took my bike to Honda East's open house dyno run for $10. Been reading all the 190+ posts and mine did 180.8. I was also told here to have TC off the next time and drop tire pressure to 30. looking forward to having it tested again someday soon.

I went to the drag strip yesterday and ran my 14r. This is the first time I have ever run a bike on a drag strip. I had a 135.40/152.18/151.12/133.54 and a 135.21. the 152 sort of makes me think mine might just be Ok on power. now the times on the other hand are doing right embarrassing, pathetic and deserving of someone who can ride taking this thing away from me.

Not sure if the pics showed up, it's a timeslip pic.The bike did improve by just removing the flies. Man this thing has A LOT of torque. I can't launch it SWB the way I did on the 08 and not wheelie! Probably put the stock 17T front sprocket back on and go 40 or 41 in the rear.

^Very true sir! I gave the 14R back to JV today. I couldn't justify the extra $6k to go a whopin' two tenths quicker- if that. It's hard to be consistent on that thing at SWB and compete against bracket cars. Thanks for all your help gentlemen!

Yeah kinda I think he was looking to buy it from JV so he was riding it at the track and wasn't happy with its performance I guess but they race in Albuquerque NM so any stock bike is slow up their even the new 14r I think the track elevation is around 5700' and the DA is around 7-8000' most of the time so yeah I would be unhappy with it stock at that altitude.

You both are right- lol. The 14R is a great bike don't get me wrong but yeah I was a lil' disappointed. My stock BMW traps 143-145mph under the same conditions, and my 08 14 with an SS head traps 142-143. 139 is all the 14R would go with a 170lb ride like myself. Granted it's stock but with all the hype this bike has received, i'm disappointed. Big thanks to JV for letting me rent it, and saving me an extra $6k that I would have regretted spending.

Disappointed.? My gen1 goes from my best ever in good air 8.76 and the gen 2 goes 8.47 crappy air .. Damn near a full 3 tenths and 10 MPH faster in the heat ! Just wait till we get some good air that matches my best air on my old ZX14 .. What do you want ? a blow job from Rosie Odonnell or Angelina Jolie...

No i didn't forget that .. but you forget i was very sick at the time and could just make it to the track .. I only tried it a one or two times at stock wheel base also .. I had tons of runs on my gen 1s at stock wheel base .. Cindy Crawford would be ok with me too
