Exhaust wrap question
For anyone who has wrapped their headers with exhaust wrap what did you think of the finished result? I see several kits for sale in 2x25 rolls or 1x50 rolls but they dont specify if thats enough for an inline four engine with four headers. So will one kit work or would I need two kits? Thanks in advance guys!

I tend to agree, it only looks good for the first ten minutes it's on, then it's ratty looking. Also it will severly tarnish your pipes under it. I know it is supposed to increase power slightly, maybe someone who's done comparison dyno runs could inform us. As for heat control it works great.

I've never used it on any of my sportbikes but have used it on a Harley and a Mustang. It definitly works good at controling heat. The Harley I had it on had a Thunderheader with no heat shields and after I wrapped it, the pipe would be cool enough to touch within a couple minutes after shutting the engine off. As far as looks, I think it looks good (the black, not tan or natural). Gives it a hot rod look. You just have to keep spraying dye on it to keep it black. Might be kinda hard to do behind the plastics. One 2x25 roll did my Thunderheader but I did it all the way back to the torque cone. It took two 2x25 rolls to do my Mustang headers. One roll on each side.

I'm considering it for heat reduction around the engine, not really concerned about any HP gain. Thanks guys!

It's great for heat reduction but it traps moisture and can make your pipe brittle. You're better off having your pipe ceramic coated... It's a pain in the ass taking it off and sending it out but it will last longer than the wrap and looks cool.... besides it's not that expensive to coat it.

+1 on Ceramic coating, Works very well for heat reduction, pipe is cool to the touch within minutes of turning the engine off!

I used it on my first '06 to help keep the heat out of the raditor in traffic.... Seemed to help the heat cause I never hit the top temp bar. I haven't wrapped my second '06 and have hit the top bar of the temp gauge several times. I can't tell you about the HP increase because I didn't dyno the bike before I wrapped it. I used the 1" wrap.

I used it on my Honda project so we could get away with painted pipe covers. It's worked great for 6 yrs and 12K miles on the 2000cc Chromeless cruiser. Use black (won't show the discolouration) wrap it wet and tight, lock it in place with thin saftey wire about every 6" or so (its cheap and you can hardly see it). Don't freek the first few times you run the engine, the wrap will smoke like crazy, then be fine. Mine is on a stainless steel exhaust from the header over the collector right to the can.
