Enlightened today on local laws...not good

I've been pulled in several directions lately with the new 14 when it comes to replacing the exhaust.
Long story short, there have been some new changes here where I live (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates)....the local police can impound your bike if they deem it excessively loud due to aftermarket exhausts. When they impound it, they can give it back...or keep it. It has much more to do with who you know. I don't know anyone with "wasta", so I will be rolling around quietly. I'm pretty sure its not that big of a deal, but I wont be risking it either. It's a bit odd here, each Emirate has its own rules and regulations. For example, I can tint the windows on a leased car in Dubai, but here in Abu Dhabi you cannot tint a leased vehicle? The fine is only $3000 USD if you get caught....I laugh because the locals have 5% on the front windshield, and one of those reflective rollup shades (not rolled up) across the dash...amazing.

Needless to say, my spirited rides to work have slowed a bit and I will be looking for the absolute quietest exhaust I can find, and black it out.

Tough law. I wonder what the penalty would be for giving a woman a ride on the back of your bike?

Never been to Ras. I've only owned the bike for about 3 weeks, so I still have some research to do on where to ride. Right now its just to friggin' hot to do anything other than riding to work and back.

I don't know if I would ride in Qatar either...I will be going there for the MotoGP though. I was lucky enough to attend the first night time MotoGp, hoping to get a chance to go this year since I'm so close.

I'm working on a contract, plan on staying here for a few years, maybe more, maybe less. Less if I don't slow the hell down. lol

As for having a woman on the back...my wife would have a Hella lot more to say about that than the police. UAE is not near as strict as other countries, so having a woman on the bike is Not an issue....two up with two fellas...might get you thrown in jail though. As for local customs and what not, Dubai is way more relaxed on that kind of stuff. Abu Dhabi is still a very conservative Emirate.

I Like it here, it just sucks riding in the heat...but a new 14 makes it MUCH BETTER...wife is bringing my new riding gear over this weekend and staying for a few months. I'm still waiting on some parts to be delivered thru the postal system. It takes way to long to get stuff over here and pricing is about 30% higher on everything, plus shipping. Tires are not cheap either, and competent installers need to be researched. I have to drive an hour to buy tires and get them installed. Finding oil is even painful...

Bottom line...to me its worth it. Great bike and the other stuff is just time consuming...but I have a LOT of time on my hands. Luckily, summer is coming to a close and there is Great riding weather in the winter.

Still researching exhausts. Kawasaki UK offers a full and slipon system by Akrapovic. If I can order it thru the dealership & have them install it, I may have a loophole for the aftermarket exhaust system. With that said, I have seen bikes here with full Brock systems...and they are loud. Pretty damn sure the local cats dont have to worry about much. Motorcycles in general(above 250cc) are seen as rich man toys....maybe because all of the young guys that have them have plenty of money. This weekend, a guy came into the Kawasaki dealership wanting to buy the used zx10(the one without the exhaust)...he was driving a new Ferrari "California"? Beautiful car....nice zx10 too, just a little too rashed for me, would make a great track bike in Dubai though.

I rode a 14R a few weeks ago with the Akropovic on it, was MUCH quieter than my Brock's..... And performance was good.

Seno, was it a full system? I really like Brock's product and support, but I am not sure it will fit into what I'm looking for right now...especially since his noise reducers are $100 each.

Yes it was a full system. I am very happy with my Brock's CT, and like a loud exhaust to make drivers in my vicinity aware there is a bike close. Brock's has. a Quiet Kore which is a little quieter at a very slight HP loss (literally 2-3). I put several of his exhausts on the dyno about 6 months ago.... Here is the link if you are interested.
