I find my 2012 slightly more notchy than my 07, but still solid. Just dont be gentle with it. I have just under 3k.

thanks for the reply's.i have full synthetic mobil 1 in it now.i am spoiled with my zx12r.i sent the transmission shafts to mark at r&d motorsports in florida.he performed his STREET CUT to the gears and a few other mods 4 years ago....anybody that has rode my 12 has said it is the smoothest and best feeling transmission they have ever felt.it is like magic.up and down.

I cant imagine a transmission as smooth as my 14R...seems smoother than my 2006, I dont miss the clunk associated with my 2003 & 2000 12R. I have less than 600 miles on the new 14, still have dirty dino in it.

I am almost at 3K now on my 14R. It feels a little better than my 07 but still has the clunk into first. On my 07 the clutch would make some noise unless the clutch lever was pulled in....

My 14R should top 4000 miles this week, and it's still pretty clunky. Shifting is much smoother in the higher RPM ranges, but it's somewhat rough during normal riding.

For reference, I'm running Motul 7100 full synthetic oil.

oh yeah i forgot to mention what you guys are saying.no matter what i do (rev engine and wait to put in 1st gear, roll and little forward or backward with and without engine rev, with and without the clutch pulled it still sounds like it`s fucking the transmission up....on my zx12 if i`m at a stop then roll backwards 6 inchs you can not hear or feel it go into 1 st gear.it is awsum.it just kills me to put my brand new zx14 into 1st gear from neutral .

Mark, this sounds so far out of whack from what my transmission does that its kinda scary. I will be changing my oil this weekend, gonna run another 500 miles before I go full synthetic. That will put me over the 1K mile marker, and I pray that I don't have issues like the ones you are describing. I will definitely pay close attention and post up if it starts acting different.

Is there any chance that the new slipper clutches do not like full synthetic? It sounds like a shot in the dark, but it really makes me wonder.

This bike shifts WAY nicer than any 12R...including MINE.Reworked trans deals don't count.Hands down....this bike shifts excellently, with or without the clutch...at any speed, and downshift...any upshift...leaned in or straight railin. This trans performs perfect....8000 miles so far...and she's shifting better all the time.

I put mine in 1st hear before I start it or it feels and sounds like the engine just fell out of the bike. Shifting is also clunky going through the gears.

My 14R 'bangs' pretty hard into 1st from Neutral as well. Once its going its very smooth. it's funny though... this 2012 14R doesn't really feel any smoother than my old C model ZZR-11100 (ZX-11)... In fact with the computer controlled butterfiles it doesn't even feel any more powerful than my old 11 either, other than when hitting past 6K rpm hard Oh how I miss my old 11

2 things I don't like about the 14, the noisey cam chain tentioner and the clunk when going from neutral to first gear. The cam chain tentioner was an easy fix..... Anyone have a cure for the big clunk?

Just hit 7000 miles on mine. Trannys rock solid smooth and tight. Like Seno says N to 1st is loud compared to a RC8 or RR but from 2nd thru 6th its tight upshift and downshift. Bike is running flawless..

Creeps.
