Great sounding bikes from the past...

Reading Smokin's story reminded me of a few memorable bikes from the past so credit to him for the inspiration here. Anyway here you go with some stuff from the past that is still vivid in the memory.

1. Original VMax with a Kerker white tip pipe.
2. GPZ750 Turbo with stock mufflers removed.
3. CBX with either 6-2-1 or 6-2-2 exhaust.
4. KZ1000 with a Kerker pipe.
5. Not a fast bike, but great sounding, VFR750 with Erion Racing exhaust.

For sure we are spoiled with 14's and any number of current bikes that will smoke the old stuff, but NOTHING sounds like a GPZ750 staging with that turbo spooled up. Especially at that time when turbo bikes where not commonplace like now.

Just my memories from the old days,

Leo

I grew up on 2-stroke streetbikes, so if it had the stereo burble of sweet 2-stroke sound and smell, my eyes would glaze over till I climbed on and got to the throttle twisting
I LOVED the sound, especially my big 2-strokes like my kawi 500 and 750 triples. Still get shivers thinking about the sound warming them up with the expansion chambers......the calm before the storm on a crisp morning lol.

I had a 1985 GPZ 750 turbo... That was a fun bike, at 6K it started to make the turbo "whine" then launch.... a whole 87 HP back then and it was fast..... LOL

Had a new 77' KZ 1000 with a 4 into Kerker (spit a shim in 85 but still have it), 86' ZX10 (wrecked), 89' ZX10, 98' ZX11 with a LOUD D&D 4 into 1, a 02' ZX12 with a 40 shot, and now a 06' 14 with a 50 shot. Had a blast with every one of them.

My motorbike days started with these and the sounds, i'll never forget:

The LC250 and 350's. Suzuki GT250's, 380,550, 750 triples and the wonderful Kawa 550's and the H1 750

CT 70 was my first bike... My second was a Honda 100 that i put a big bore kit ,cam and a hooker header..

Then comes a long list of bikes from H2s to Z1s , GT 380 , GT 550 , GT 750.. I would say over 40+ years maybe close if not more a hundred bikes ...

I really like the Kerker exhaust on the old Vmax as well.
I had a 97 model that I built up with a built motor and a 60 shot and nothing I have ever had or still have sounded like the Vmax with the Kerker 4-2-1 exhaust that bike also turned more heads and sparked up more random conversation at the gas station than any bike I ever owned.

Amen to that! The white tip Kerker sounded just like a Pro stock V8. Still the most distinct sounding bike I have ever heard. V-boost anyone?

KZ with a Kerker is classic bad-ass sounding. My favorite would have to be a Honda 954 with Erion pipe.

Warbird, go back and read it again. I was talking of a FZR1000. That 400 is sweet. I had the 440 that I put the 400 tail on. It was one of the all time favorites. sniff-sniff...lol

Yep I'm pretty close to that number myself in a few years less time. Have great memories of each and every bike, and more stories than I can tell....as most of us here prolly do.
Sure is neat walking down memory lane tho and remembering why I ride

Never owned that size kawi triple, just the 500 and 750. Owned pretty much every other size 2-stroke street bike made tho.......man I loved those things

When I was going to school to be a bike tech I carried the complete front rightside cv joint housing off my Audi on the back rack of my RD200 to school to use the shop equipment on it lol. Pretty much did a wheelie most of the way there...........the teachers thought I was nuts. Not nuts.....just young and brave. And prolly breaking some laws lol.
Those were the days

I'm at 98 bikes myself. Just supid, but too fun...Still the best sounding bike I've ever heard is a Honda VTR1000 SuperHawk w/aftermarket exhaust (Preferably Two Brothers.). The best.

The two valve heads on the old GS and KZ just had their own distinct sound. Low rpm music.
