Very cool story. Local shop here had a CBX and an RC30 that were the owners, brand new, never ridden and he left them in the window for decades.

That's for sharing.

At the school I attended they had a CBX that honda had donated to the school. I figured it would be a shop bike we'd get to open up as part of our training, but they just kept it on display, never even started it. Prolly made somebody a nice collector bike lol.

I had a Boss 429 in one of my race cars .. The motor ended up in tech school in Waco TX in 1981 , it is still there today ..

The 1981 Honda CBX School Bikes are still turning up from those back rooms today. There were also Honda CX650T turbos that went to the schools as well.

Great story Smokin, I remember when Honda released details of the CBX, and I thought this was the gamechanger, nobody could possibly better it ever.

Then came the Yamaha 1100 shaft drive which made it look slow. Next the GS1100 (which I owned) blitzed the Yammie. The GS1100 was the fastest production bke in the world with a top speed of about 140mph, and made about 75 rwhp, or 100hp at the crank. It could do an unbelievable 60mph in 1st gear.

Honda cbr1100 knocked the Suz off the podium. Wonderfull days, when 100 hp at the crank was the benchmark, I think the cbr1100 made about 110hp (80+rwhp). Please confirm if I am correct on the hp figures.

Here is my encounter with a CBX for the first time on the street: We were hanging out on a Saturday night. A local grocery store parking lot where the bike guys would go and bench race and talk about all the mods they would do. I had my 1978 Z1R Kawasaki with a Pipe, no baffle, 29mm smoothbores with pod filters. A pretty quick bike in it's day. This was early summer 1980. I heard it before I saw it. It sounded like a ferrari. If you have never heard a CBX inline 6 with a 6 into 1 header you have missed out. there is no other sound like it on a bike. Anyway he came over and wanted to run so I said I would and the whole gang headed out to Hwy. 69 bridge for some 1/4 mile action. I lined up with him and left hard lightly spinning the tire. I never had a chance. Once we got going he pulled ahead of me every time. I bet he raced every body in our group of bikes that night and not one time did anyone beat that CBX. It was a cool looking bike with the whale tail on the back plastic and the cool looking orange fat needles on the gauges. But what I remeber most was the sound of that bike. It was classic. So I went home and saved my pennies and bough a used ATP turbo kit ffor the Z1R. It had a log style exhaust manifold and I think the most crappy Zenith carb that you could not get to quit leaking gas or tune it worth a crap. The CBX is one cool bike.

The CX650T turbo was 1983 only and there were very few of them.
