BST wheels
Just spoke......no pun intended, with the Head office for BST in South Africa.
Had a lengthy conversation regarding the latest "advisories" that have been posted up.
In light of what happened to the Pro street bike, the situation has been investigated by BST.
That particular bike makes in excess of 600 HP and it had more than 500 passes on it.
Sounds to me that a better pre-race inspection may be in order for the operators.
There has been a bunch of bs and doctored misinformation coming out in some of the forums, mainly by people that know nothing about the subject they're talking about.
BST is proud of their products and they stand behind them.
I will continue using BST's on my worked over 12 and I'm ordering a set for the superduke as well.

Unless someone has documented evidence of wheels actually coming apart and causing an accident, it's a bit unfair to make any statements.

Weird, never saw the disclaimer on the wheels having a HP rating or limit to number of passes. Also, did they say that they only visually inspect the wheel for soundness when they are made? I personally think BST makes a very nice wheel, however in an extreme application there needs to be more info provided to the people using them as to what the real lifespan and limits are.

Because someone has finally found the limit of durability, 600 + hp, in a dragrace application, now all the wheels are suspect?
I'm comfortable with my wheels and will use them on other bikes also.
If I crash into something and destroy a wheel, so be it. I'm pretty confident that the wheel isn't what's going to cause the crash.
Talk to Bill Warner.......I'd bet that he's going to continue using them.

huh, you would think that they would "finally" find the durability before selling them? Im am not telling you or anyone to not use these things. Just wondering if you asked them how they insp them out the door, because a visual field insp of CF only really tells you that the protective coating is ok. As I stated before,, and I will again.. I think Bst is a good product. However I believe that they should offer an inspection of the wheels with "their" equipment. They should have an idea as to how often. And at that point they would also gain info as to how their wheels are performing on different bikes, hp, and care. which would offer free field testing for them, and better safety for the riders. just my opinion.

Tell you what Pal, Call Marchesini, Call Oz wheels, call any of them and ask them what their hp limit is or how many passes they are good for ! Good luck with that one.
I've been to the BST factory and had a tour of their facility a few years ago. They have a QC that is second to none.
The wheels exceed DOT requirements, what more do you want?

listen these wheels have been broken with alot less than 600 hp. its personal preference to me. if you like them . then run them. im sure how well one maintains their bst and alot of other factors are involved in how long they last. personally ive seen a guy change his tire at the track using screwdrivers. he chipped his bst up pretty good. hes still using it. no racing product usually gives any kind of warrenty. but if a problem comes up with your product then how you handle it can determine the future of your company. the responce they put out to me seems they are more worried about covering their backside than actual saftey.

+1 quick 6 and Bently. I have seen these spokes crack at far less than 600hp, like stock motored GSXR 1000 hp. But consider this, look how many high horsepower bikes are using Marvics and the like, how many of them have you seen break like that? I have seen pictures of one set of thin spoked billet wheels break like that, but haven't seen much else. And like I said before, if BST does what they did with the front wheel and make an "R" version for dragracing or high horsepower applications, the weight will be approaching a Marvic magnesium or aluminum wheel. And if they don't save weight then why pay the premium over a set of metal wheels?
Just my two cents, I would never spend the money on a set of BST's personally so I guess it doesn't matter. And for what it's worth, I spoke with the No Joke Hayabusa owner/team and Jeremy Teasley right after this, and they told me that the bike made somewhere around 690hp but it did have a good bit of passes on the wheel, but it wasn't more than 500. Add to that the fact that they just replaced the front wheel the day prior due to finding cracks during test and tune, and the whole thing doesn't look good. I am not saying BST is untrustworthy, but they do want to continue to sell these high dollar wheels, so take it for what its worth.

Pal? lol. I thought what I suggested was a viable option to the issue. I still think they are good wheels, and are a worthwhile upgrade. I just think some people that buy them need to be aware of the potiental failure of them even under normal conditions. I would just suggest for anyone that really needs that lil extra to at least google "carbon fiber part failure" to understand what the failure rate is of any Cf item. And that a visual inspection will not garantee the item is not damaged. Cf failure "can" happen from the inside out, and begins on a macro level which can only be seen with the correct equipment at whatever point its detectable. If you feel safe with that, then thats your option. However I personally would not feel good about telling people it is a 100% garantee that they will be ok, without owning the company. thats my opinion, and Im not trying to sell anything or keep it from being sold. Do as you wish.

I will only post the first paragraph there is 4 pages of this minipulation. There is a moral duty for me to get this out before someone gets killed. Brocks Performance and BST has already known about this they were going to send me a wheel that is supose to be 30 percent stronger. These wheels need to be removed from our sport. Our lives are not worth 1 or 2 lbs of weight. 100 percent better is not strong enough.

Well yeah...notice the 'stunt riding' deal there?Rocket powered? They're excellent wheels...for normal street riding...NORMAL.The wheels themselves are very strong....yes...but the chance of developing a hairline, unseen crack is ALWAYS a problem.Everytime you take that wheel into the shop...or whatever...if that guy installing those tires gets it wrong 'just a teensy bit'....you COULD end up with a catastrophic failure...in any riding situation.I like the 'concept' of those wheels...yes...but not being able to control how another person might treat em...now that's the problem(to me).If you ride spirited on the street...with a 14...you're gonna go through lots of tire changes. That's the ONLY reason I wouldn't own some....other than that....they are sweet! And proven. And shit happens.Doesn't make the whole thing iffy.
They are strong,yes...but they also are vulnerable.Actually...VERY vulnerable. One rock strike...one curb hit...that could start something you wouldn't necessarily notice.Only for that reason would I shy away from em.I'll stick with metal alloys.

After reviewing all of the expert opinions on these wheels, mainly coming from people that don't own them and never would; I am shit scared to even roll my 12 out of the garage with those wheels on it.
In fact, I think my 4 yr old boy bounced a nerf ball off the rear rim and may have caused some irrepairable damage.
Any bids on these, as I'm just to scared to even use them anymore

C'mon now...they're fine wheelsPlenty of hard ass miles around the world on em....they're fine. You gotta admit though...that CF IS 'kinda' fragile under the right circumstances. The 'disclaimer' proves that. But still...nothing wrong with having em.Long as a guy knows certain things about em...just like anything else.
Look at Brock's disclaimer about his Flash and all...doesn't mean every motor's gonna blow...or even one.Just a warning.

Marchesini’s target is speed.
It fits out many of the 2010 MotoGp racing riders, starting from the ninth world champion Valentino Rossi on his Yamaha, in addition to ten teams in the Superbike world championship.
Last season, Marchesini has claimed thirteen victories in MotoGP, WSB and many national race series around the world.
Marchesini directly furnishes the most successful teams and, in co-operation with them, has identified the best product specifications for each racer with “Y” design 5-spoke (since 2002) and 7-spoke (since 2007) forged magnesium wheels.
