Camera Mounting Those of you who use cameras on the bike, where and how are you mounting them?
I'm having trouble finding good locations on the front of my 14R. I'm installing a GPR tonight, so a steering stem mount is out of the question.
Obviously, I could just stick the mounting bases most anywhere on the bike, but I'd rather not mess up the looks of the bike any more than is necessary.
Any idea if unsprung mounting points work at all? Maybe I could stick one of the GoPro bases to a reflector up front.

I mount mine either in the center of the tank, (in the depressed area) for a good look at the guages as well as the view ahead or on top of one of my dedicated Go Pro Helmets
A side mount on the helmet also gives a nice view. Some have had problems with the suction mount but mine has held great.

+1 I mounted mine in the center of the tank in depressed area, seems to work well.
I tried to raise the mount up a bit to get more of the road but noticed that raising the camera made it less stable.
This is basically the view as mounted above http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPaX14MeBe8&feature=plcp ____________

I managed to get the GoPro sucker to stay on the 14's tank, I used a tether too in case it let go but it was fine. A really good view of the dials and through the screen. Just road riding. For the track I would use one of the sticky bases.

You don't need a clear screen. I was saying to myself damn it's not going to get anything through the dark smoke double bubble.... Look at the video link, it's amazingly clear... But then again what I like you may not.

When recording I usually install the stock clear screen, that's just my preference.
So far I've used fairing lower side, with a tether attached to the camera housing, the suction cup tank mount, and the handlebar mounting kit attached to my rearview mirror.

I'm going to get one soon .. My problem is where do i put it for drag racing ? I can't use it on the tank because in need to lay my chest on the tank and get my head below the wind screen .. I love you to be able to see the tach and speedo as well as the track but i don't see a way to do that .. If i put it on the helmet you might see a little of the pass , but the last 330 feet i'm looking down at the tank to get my head fully behind the screen so you would see nothing from the camera .. Yes the last 330 i don't look where i'm going .. Anyone got any ideas ?

Three different camera angles from Wee's videos at the track.

put the camera on the front of the bike and wire it up to a screen on the tank so you can see where youre going!!!

Saw one yesterday mounted on front center of windshield with double sided sticky tape, had it up to 155 mph so far with no movement issues........that way it does not interfere with a tank bag, gps mount, and does not clutter up the cockpit.
But you have to reach over to turn it on, mount the bike and be off.......on a stock windshield you can reach over the top and turn it on and off.

Samin, those are great videos. Thanks for sharing.
What video editing program do you use? I've been using Cyberlink PowerDirector 8, but I am looking for a better (PIP - picture in picture) editing program.

I´ve made all PIP videos with Sony Vegas. Imo, it´s one of the the fastest SW I´ve tried for HD PIP editing.

I found a company overseas that makes custom gps, camera, phone mounts. I picked one up and use it for my PC LCD display and it works great. You could also use it for a camera mount, especially for drag racing as the mount is above the triple tree. Here is the link for the part and it hase some pics of it mounted on the bike. It takes about 2 1/2 weeks for them to make it and ship to your door. Total cost was around $65 I think.
I also have a camera mount that I picked up of ebay. It mounts to the gas cap bolts and projects forward. It is very sturdy and provides great footage.

A word of caution: I visited a friend in hospital a few years ago after a track day accident he'd had on his RC30. He had severe abdominal injuries caused by the video camera mounted on the tank of his bike.
If you mount a GoPro, or any other hard object, on the tank make sure it will brake free if you come into contact with it.

This is the reason why I prefer to use the GoPro Suction Cup Mount with a tether cord attached to the camera housing..
