It seems we've had that question come up once every couple days for the last month straight. The search can be a pretty handy tool sometimes

My UK handbook for the 14 tells me to use 95 RON, I think that's 91 Octane in the US (?) but there's no point in higher octane unless you have pre-ignition. This won't happen on a stock engine, although some of the more expensive fuels here (UK), which are also the higher octane ones like Shell V-Power, are supposed to keep the engine cleaner and allow it to perform to the optimum.
It's the high ethanol content fuel you need to avoid. Maximum of 10% according to Kawasaki.

Tried an experiment the other day.fill both the 14 and the busa, with the wife driving it,with 89 octane. For the next tank filled them both with 91. They both went 20kms,12 miles, farther with the 91.don't know which one makes more power, both the 91 gets better fuel milage.

I find the same thing, better fuel mileage with higher octane, but I run 87 year round & save the extra $ for tires. It works out to be more expensive running 93 even with the small gain in mileage plus the bike hauls ass on 87 (it;s an '06). The temp/humidity here is always 100/100 for 9 months.

temps were the same all day.put on 300miles two tanks.have noticed this before everytime I have to run below 91.we don't get 93 up here in eastern Canada.

Mine is the same way. I get an average of 9-10 miles more per tank with 93 octane than I do when I use 89. I don't notice any power differnece between the two though.

89 octane here is 10% ethanol which kills mileage. I tried 87 octane but it spark knocked at low rpm. So, I only use premium 91-93 octane now.

From what I have read, 89 makes best power.... Stock motor setup. Obviously if your running a built motor then the ocatane requirements will be different.

Gas................Octane................Specific Gravity (Density)............Heat Value
Reg..................87..........................., .740............................................42.7
Mid...................89..........................., .745............................................43
Prem...............93............................, .755...........................................43.5
E-85................101.........................., .783...........................................29
Octane only controls Preignition, Knok, Detonation,
E-10 , MORE Ethanol is added to Summer blend, March to October, LESS Nov through Feb, to help Starting in Cold climates,( EPA mandate.)
Lower the Specific Gravity (Density) the Thinner the Fluid, it will Flow more fluid through a given size jet or injector, in the Same amount of Time
Without changing A/F , Maps, Jets, Injectors
Lower specific gravity = thinner = richer
Higher specific gravity = thicker = leaner = better gas milage
Ethanol has less Heat Value = Burns Cooler , also absorbs Water, less room for Qxgyen molcules = Less Power
MR-9.............87...................., .718
MR-12...........87..................., .733.
C-25.............113..................., .695

We will have to agree to disagree, MR12 has worked best for me. I have ran a few pales of each, the MR9 works well, but my best times and MPH came from MR12.
