Getting below 500 pounds starts to cost alot of money.

Remove OE exhaust, ZX10 wheels, Shorai Li battery and pulling off other unnecessary items will net 495 pounds with a gallon of fuel:

You can easily get below 500 pounds without a lot of money. Exhaust is something most everyone does anyway, so I wouldn't include that in the price of losing weight.

My bike weighs 465 with a gallon or so of fuel and their definitely isn't a lot of money in it. Just attention to detail mostly. Most expensive was the same as stated above, lightweight battery ($99 from ebay) and the ZX10 wheels I bought from a friend. I still have a lot to go through to reduce the weight a little more.

Of course all of this depends on what you want to with the bike. Are you drag racing, street riding, etc...

And as Cody stated, look at that thread, Shane took a lot of time documenting all of the weights of both stock and aftermarket parts for comparisons sake. Definitely a must read.

but why not just start with a zx10r to begin with....the reason these hypersport bikes weigh so much is they don`t feel like they are going to snap in half on the road when you hit the bad road imperfections.it`s gonna happen.i hate it but sometimes it does...

Because there to damn small and make no TQ, even though you lighten a 14 it's still the same riding position which is much better then a 10r for most and you still have killer tq and light weight!

U r correct there is alot of good info in those pages. My bike weighs 530lbs. Muzzy exhaust 70" wheel base, no mirrors still have head lights our track has bad lighting at night I weigh 165 suited in full gear I just don't see where I could even take 20lbs off the bike without spending alot of cash.

530 with a full tank?

Post a picture and I can point out some areas. 530 is heavy. Even with a headlight and stock wheels, you can get your bike to 485 with 1.5 gallons of fuel in it.

Start with:

Light Battery 8.5 lbs
No bar ends 1 lb
Frame supports 30 oz
Remove 1 front brake 6.5 lbs
Galfer rear rotor 1lb+
Passenger peg supports?? 3 lbs
Lighter gas cap 1/2 lb
Lighter footpegs and heel plates 12 oz +
Sound damping 3 lbs +
Aluminum rear Sprocket 1 lb
Misc Brackets 2 lbs
Catalyst step seat near 6 lbs+

Ditch stock wheels:

10R wheels/rear wave rotor 8 lbs

That's going by memory, but all is detailed in my thread (10R wheels were in the thread I made on Racheal's 14).
