Yes, another damn oil question
Figured I'd change the 14R oil between 50 and 100 miles. Any horror stories why I shouldn't use synthetic on the first change?

CraZX14: I am not an expert so I am free to say what I want... Long story short... IF you follow the manufacture's "take" on how things should be for the bike "they" built; you should have a great relationship with your new bike. That is one school of thought. Now; If you listen to other's, especially the people on this site that actually race these bikes, work on them, manufacture parts, etc. on all kinds of motorcycles over the years; they know what works for them, and others. I changed my oil in very short order after taking it out on the highway and put in Shell Rotella 5-40 full synthetic... I use it on my wing, and other bikes, and I think- take your pick on who you want to listen to... I think you will be in good hands no matter which way you go...I have friends that use Amsoil, and many other brands... I have never seen any oil related issues,(that doesn't mean there haven't been any somewhere, somehow) but you get the idea... What have you been doing currently with oil in your motorcycles?

I did my first change with Castrol GTX, 35 miles, went around 100 more miles and went synthetic. I like to flush the breakin oil out before putting the good stuff in.

Thanks Wee - good advice and what I was thinking. Montana - I've been using Shell Rotella 5-40 full synthetic also for some time and have no complaints - good oil at a fair price!

hey wee, or anyone who can educate me on this...what is it that makes castrol gtx or the Quaker state oil recommended by Brock good for break in? Wee, you mention flush. Is it the cleaning additives in the gtx??
Thanks!
