Gearing
Hello 14ners,
I have a 2011, and i went 16/43. I would like to know what to exspect. I am not running on the track. I am about 230lbs. I ride around town and twist hard at times. pump gas at 93. 6inches in the rear and lowered, flies out, bmc filter, stacks, auto tune and pcv, ssteering damper, i would like to find the tre that wont change my GI. most of the guyz in my club have the hayabusa and i am the only zx14, so you know i get challenged. oh yeah, i got a dyno ride at 185.1 hp and 107 torque, and my pipes are wrapped from the headers to the cannister, and i have a full muzzy. I think thats it...lol

16/43 worked great for me on my 07, I went 17/43 on the 12.... I walk around 225-235ish.

try 16/45 or 46. It will feel like you added 20hp.

I agree with BLK ICE. I'm running 16/46 and this thing is a beast. Clutch control is the ticket.

I have a similar set-up. If you hit it hard, it'll feel like it's trying to drive out from under you. Keep a firm grip on the handle bars and have fun!

You guyz are the bomb. But i forgot to ask will my top end suffer? will i wind out gears faster? I am supposed to pick up my beast today, but its raining, so will have to keep you posted.

A friend of mine with stock gearing is hitting about 3500rpm at 70mph in 6th gear. I on the other hand am at about 4500rpm at 70 mph in 6th gear. Your gas mileage will suffer a bit, but I still get around 27-30MPG and I'm a heavyweight with a strong right wrist.
As far as top end, mine will get up to 120mph in the time it takes to enter an on ramp, however once you get to about 150 acceleration starts to slow compared to stock but it still climbs pretty steadily. I don't know what the top speed is, but I've had it to 160 a few times, which is plenty if you're on any public road. However keep in mind I'm a big guy 6'3" 300+ so i will have more drag and the bike has to carry more weight.
Also I have a Muzzy Bonneville Pro box so all speeds are pretty accurate. Your indicated uncorrected results will be more impressive.

16/43 is a good combo. I had it on my old 14. You will have plenty of top end. I have 16/48 and I can do 160.

Your top end will suffer, but you will get there faster, and, do you really want to max out at 200mph?
check this site to determine how much your gear changes will affect your top end.

Adding one tooth to the rear drops the top end about 5 mph at 1100 rpm. adding one tooth to the front drops your top about 15mph at 1100 rpm. All of this is assuming you have the power to handle that speed.
A stock zx14 (not 14R) should hit the redline at around 208 indicated. On my bike that translates to about 198 actual. I am not sure if my 14 can push my @$$ that fast as I have not gone over 165 yet. But it got to 165 really fast.
