Brocks clutch mod testing ..

Bad news and good news ... Bad news first , i was sick as a dog all day, weak , dizzy and ready to toss my cookies .. I had the bike apart waiting for UPS to show up with my clutch mod kit .. It got here at 1:00 pm and good news it only took me 10 mins to do the install ..

Brock gave a me a set up by email that would be close to what i had my Gen 1 zx14 set up like .. Six Brocks springs and six .062 spacers .. The complete kit come with spacers ( different sizes for fine tunning ) Springs , top hat for the springs as well as the larger washer type spacer the removes the slider part of the ZX14R clutch ... I say slider clutch but it's really a Back TQ limiter clutch ..

As i said it was a very easy install that anyone could install as long as you have a air impact to remove the clutch basket nut .. The clutch nut came off very easy , much easier than the counter shaft nut for the front sprocket ..

I got to the track at 5:00 and the air was pretty much the same as the last few weeks testing but for a nasty 15 MPH head wind .. I knew that would kill some MPH but the ETs should be pretty close to last week testing .. I was not really worried about the ET and MPH as much as i was consistency with my 60 foot times .. With the factory slipper clutch my 60 footers were all over the place ranging from 1.41 to as low as 1.32 .. I just never knew what i was going to get .. Not having any consistency made it hard to test any new mods i may add to the bike .. I was hoping this clutch mod would give me what i needed , consistency..

I got what i wanted , even if i was sick and didn't even want to go to the track the bike worked like gang busters !! First two runs were both 1.35 60 footers .. In the high 5.40s @ 128 to 129 mph .. The next to runs i pushed a bit harder and run two back to back 1.33 60 footers .. The next two runs i pushed even harder and ran back to back 1.32s 60 footers .. I had two runs in the 1.31s but had to back off for wheelies in first gear killing the runs .. I was just pushing to hard and needed to back off and let the bike do its job ..

Gone was the mushy feeling in the clutch lever .. My shifts are much harder with a big hit on the gear change .. The one two shift popped the wheel up everytime unlike before the clutch mod .. My last runs were in the mid 5.40s @ 128 to 129 MPH with a head wind of 15 MPH .. I felt pretty good about the test when i left the track ..I was still sick but very happy with the consistency of the clutch and my 60 foot times .. Now i can move on to testing other items like the ECU reflash and a few other things i want to try like rasing my shift points from 10800 to 11000 RPMs . .I have been fighting this slipper clutch from day one and now i don't have to do that anymore .. I only ran a bit fastest than my best past runs but i did it in a 15 MPH head wind .. Had i not had a head wind i think i could have run my first 130 MPH pass tonight ...

This mod is not for everyone , twistey riders do not need this and most likely like the slipper clutch .. But for drag races, LSR , roll on racers this mod is a must do if you want the most out of your ZX14R ..

My ECU goes out for a reflash Thursday and i also have some trick ceramic wheel bearings coming in next week .. Next test will be the 1/4 mile because tonight our great little 1/8 mile track closes for good .. It will mostlikely be two weeks before i hit the 1/4 mile track and see if i can get this ZX14R to bust into the 8.40s ..

I allmost forgot .. I got a look at the clutch plates and steels .. They look great so far with only a very light browning in 3 spots on the steels ... Looks to me that they will live just as long as the Gen 1 zx14 ... For me that was over 200 runs on the old zx14 ..

Holy kaw! That thing is going to be over 130 in the 1/8th with out a headwind. That is awesome! Good to hear that it made it more consistent, that slipper clutch was the only thing that was really bothering me about getting a 14R eventually.

Looks like this will be a "must do" mod on the 14R.

Come on Lee....We need timeslips to solidify this clutch mod. Yes, we ALWAYS wanna give props and KUDOS to BROCK but we always, always want to give our ZX-14/R brothers a product that is true, tried and tested. We don't want to mislead our brothers in any way, shape or form on ANY product and last but not least we definately don't want our hard working ZX-14 & ZX-14R owner's to be wasting hard earned dollars on something that does not work as advertised !!!! Thanks

You missed the hole point of the post .. This part doesn't add HP , it a clutch mod to remove the slipper clutch on the new ZX14R ..And it does work as advertised .. It removes the slipper ( true ) it comes with springs and shims to fine tune your clutch for your weight and riding style ( true ) it's fully adjustable if you add more power with more mods ( true ) .. It gave me consistency that i could not get with the factory slipper clutch set up .. In wheelies case he did go faster because at his weight he was driving though the clutch .. I wasn't having that problem because of my lighter weight, but i hated the mushy feel of the clutch and no feed back from the clutch lever .. Now with the mod i can have consistency and run very close to the same 60 foot times every pass ..

clutch is good on the 14r, buts it's proven Brocks clutch mod will improve e.t.'s and 60ft times, so for drag racing yes it's a must do hehe. For bigger guys like me it was a huge improvement, little guys like Smokin a small improvement but it was there, we have shown y'all this product isn't a gimmick it's a proven go-fast item.

I can guarantee you I would have slammed Brocks clutch mod right in front of everybody here at Bikeland if it didn't help me go faster on my 14r. I have the first one on a 14r, you can see my thread on this, proven product, Smokin backed it up last night, proven product. I know I'm a nobody but I will stick my neck out on Brocks clutch mod for any 14r owner that races to try it, you will be satisfied...

Thanks Wheelie - I damn sure stuck my neck out sending you and Lee both one and I wouldn't have expected anything less. I'm confident that I know what I'm doing... even though I haven't even made a lap on a slammed stocker yet, much less a stretched killer like you gentlemen.

Our tracks won't be open for another month, but that doesn't mean our products don't need to be tested.
When the general public opens a package from Brock's, it's right... or it doesn't ship.

I got the Deluxe kit, I think Brock said $299? Don't quote me on that, But it has 2 different size shims, and 3 different size small increment shims for fine tuning, also has the clutch mod.

edit, has springs and shim keepers too.

I also used the .180 shims like Brocks installation video, that's probably where most racers will want to be on static pressure, I am comfortable with this setting, ask Brock but I thought he said the "standard kit" will be available for the 14r, I'm sure Brock will give the exact details when he reads this thread again.
