2012 ZX14R BOLTS VIBRATING LOOSE
Hi guys, ive now got over 2100km on my bike. Had first service @ 1000km where they 'checked' all the bots. At 1700km I lost the nut off of a bolt which secures the mounting bracket to the steering stem. The second nut was loose. This caused the whole nose cone to bounce up and down causing some fairings to rub.
Any one else come accross this? I have had this happen to my ZX12R and CBR600f over the years. Obviously I didnt get my moneys woth at the first service. Will be examining any fairing damage in the morning and making a call to the servicing dealership.

Well I've got a 'new' buzzing sound coming from behind my dash on my new ZX-14R that kicks in between 3900rpms and 4500rpms. I've only done 900KMs (~560miles) so far and the sound wasn't there when the bike was new. It sounds like something has come loose and is vibrating on something else. I'm going to get the dealer to sort it out, and check ALL the nuts & bolts at the 1st service which will be later in the coming week once I hit 1000Kms.
I'll keep you all posted.

Good info, thanks for sharing! A good portion of my bike has been taken apart & re-assembled so far... I love locktite! Time to check the stuff that has not been taken apart for torque specs. I know many people are not a fan of locktite but I constantly use the blue or red depending on the location. The only things that I do not locktite ever are parts secured with the rubber well nuts because those fuckers just spin & spin. 700 miles currently on my bike and no "new" noises except for Brock's exhaust ;-)

I was near father in laws house. Swapped loose nut and replaced missing one with locknut. Will be checking regulary. Absolutly LOVE the CT Single. Love the note and dont mind the pops n crackles. Wife even likes it. Only thing is, by ditching stock exhaust, ive gotta play with rear pre load and possibly tighten up the rebound a smidge. Mite put HID's in tomorrow. Hope your enjoying your 14r seno.

I noticed after a cople of hundred more that my steering head nut was finger tight. I loctited it and went over the bike. Only other loose one I found was on the battery connection. I usually put split washers on th battery terminal as I have had them vibrate off on my '06.

Thank you Cruiserman_83, I hope you are enjoying yours too. The CT Single does have a nice "mean" note to it. HID's are a really nice addition, I used Xentec digital ones I got off eBay for around $33 per pair, 6K color temperature. If I were going to do the HID's again, I would only have done the low beams, the high beams get lost once you adjust your low beams. If you get the "digital" ballasts, the flash to pass still works pretty well.

Hey, long time lurker here.
Greggy, Im in Perth too, got my Black one last week.
Reading about htat vibration you are experiencing motivated me to sign up and post this.
I also have/had the vibration behind the dash noise.
It is the vehicle down sensor (cuts the engine when you are tipped over)
It is a magnet on an axel inside the box behind the tacho. The magnet can rotate and cointacts a switch that sit in a circuit inside that box.
Around 5k rpm the frequency seems to be just right to set this thing vibrating.
If you remove the windscreen you will be able to access it.
I found the mount was a bit loose and thightening it helped.
However the actual sensor itself rattles and there doesnt seem to be much I could do about it.
Googling tip over sensor vibration found a few people with similar issues in the past.
Good news is that there is nothign wrong with the engine, and most probably nothing shaking loose.
I took mine off and zip tied soem foam to it and wrapped it in a rag and now I can hardly hear it.
I thought of filling it with some mineral oil, Im pretty sure it would work but not 100% sure if the oil would damage the circuit in the long term. Ive seen whole PC's submersed in mineral oil so I think it would be a viable solution (or not, dont blame me
I am loving this bike, coming off a 03, gen 1 hayabusa.
The ZX is better in every way, expect it has zero storage space, where the busa had a some space in the boot.
Anyway, take off your windscreen (just the six fasteners you see) and you have easy access to that vibration and can try to damp it down.
Im not entirely happy with my solution and will head down to Clark Rubber later for something more sound dampening than the shit pice of foam, 2 zip ties and old rag thats in there now.
Hope this has helped

Welcome ImoXu!
Here is a very interesting article regarding tip over switches, aimed at the 2000-2002 GSXR 750's but this last post reminded me of it.

Hi,
Thanks for the welcome.
The zx14r tip over switch doesnt look like that one.
See page 3-79 of the service manual
The axel of the part labelled A is not fixed so the whole wheel can vibrate.
I migth go pull it all apart one more time to see if that axel part can be held in place and still allow for rotation...
Certainly filling it with silicone would fix the noise.
How unsafe is it considered to disable this sort of sensor. It seems unwise?

The same happened to me. One of the bolts completely came out and fell out the other was just there with no nut. I got new hardware from hardware store and lock tight and torqued them to 20 ft.lbs no more issues. I found a few fairing bolts loose. I check them one once a week.

Keep in mind that the steering head nut is install by the dealer .. In the crate the steeing stem nut is not there .. It has a bracket going from the stem to the steel crate to help hold the bike in place for shipping .. The dealer removes that nut and bracket when unpacking the bike ... Then they installs the stock nut and TQ to spec .... My bet the guy that put the bike together at the dealer never took the time to TQ it to spec ..

Are you running a PC or fuel manager of any kind? Also did you do the paring block?
My CT's are due next week and I'm one who really doesn't like the popping on decel so very interested in your answer.
thanks

If I could just add a teensy bit of input here?I have the CT single...full exhaust.I have a PCV w/Brock's streetmap(3).Also the Brock's/Guhl flashed ECU.I have NO popping....NONE.I expected a little bit....but nope...nothing.I can't MAKE her pop.I'm very satisfied with the setup.Runs smooth like a Racehorse.Strong as an ox...and fairly mellow/smooth exhaust note(with the sound insert in there).I wasn't sure I was gonna keep the setup...but...after getting the insert and then riding for a while,,,the overall engine perfromance/shifting performance and just enjoyable rideability 'resold' me on keeping everything.I wouldn't go back now...or ever...also removed the secondaries.Made a VERY substantial 'boost' of performance all the way across the powerband...and didn't affect the factory ride quality at all. You'll be very happy with your 14R and this exhaust system....BTW,,,th pairing block...I guess you're speaking of the tube that goes into the LEFT side of the airbox?Yes...that will eliminate any backfire...it did with mine anyway...
BTW...my stay bolts were 'slightly'(very) not snugged after 2500 miles.I resnugged em up...they are fine now at 4800.But I think I'm gonna put a teensy bit of Loctite on em....just because.

The O2 optimiser ruins fuel consumption. I have now removed it and Brocks map is running just fine without it ... just using a whole lot less fuel.
CT Meg is the best sounding pipe ever...
Fairing stay bolt fell out of mine also !

All that happens is the PCV adjusts the fuelling in the open loop area and then in the closed loop area the bike ECU maintains an AFR of 14.7 : 1.
Closed loop is less than 6000rpms and less than 60% throttle in 4th 5th and 6th gear.
The O2 optimiser supposedly makes the closed loop target 13.6 : 1, but I can't quite see how.
The bike runs just the same (to me) i.e. perfectly, so I shall be leaving the optimiser off.

The only things tight on my 06 were the crucial things like engine mounts, wheels, brakes etc.....the stuff to keep kawi legally safe. Everything else was loose...lots of fairing bolts, header bolts were finger tight when I took them off to boost it yada yada yada. Seems to be some limp-wristed fellows at the kawi factory.....maybe those boys need to eat some wheaties
