Please say no ---- Tech ?
Question is Do I have to set the crank to a certain tooth/mark to be properly timed to the top or rear balancer.
I recently tool motor down to check bearings. I followed instructions per the manual but realized once I cranked the last casde bolt that I didnt' set the crank to any specific tooth or mark for the starter gear/top balancer. I set the front balancer to the dot and groove on the crank. so I'm good there but am not sure about the other balancer. Please tell me I don't have to take the case back apart.

Yes you will have to set it. It's a balancer. You have to time them on the line up marks.

If your 14 is the same as the 14r it says for front balancer to position the crankshaft at #2,3 TDC
Then align the punch mark on the balancer gear with the mark on the balancer drive gear of crankshaft
Then for rear balancer it says position the crankshaft at #2,3 TDC or #1,4 TDC
Then align mark on the balancer gear with the mating surface of the upper crankcase half
I wouldn't think there is any difference between the 14's and 14r

Thanks guys I caught that earlier today. I was up til 2am covering all the bases while going back up with the motor. Way to sleepy and wasn't thinking right. I was just hoping I wasn't suppose to time the crank to the starter gear and I already had cases together. But woke up with a fresh brain and magically I found my own answer.
All done with bottom end. Now just need to remove valves and mil head .020. Time is on my side so ill get to it soon hopefully
